I'm saving my big pick for Friday -- you probably know where I'm headed. In the meantime, think about the Patriots and their 14-game winning streak. For some reason, this keeps getting overlooked. You would think a 14-game winning streak was hard to overlook. You would think.

This is where I laugh. Winning streak - so what. Come on these are the types of guys that get the big head thinking they don't have to practice as hard and then what happens? They lose. Not only do they lose they lose on the biggest game of the year. The Patriots couldn't beat the Texas with more than 3 points. They went into over time. 23-20. If the Patriots are that "great" why didn't the smother the Texas 23 - 3?

Quote:
I remembered something, and this is pivotal: Every streak comes to an end. And this Sunday, either New England's 14-game streak goes up in smoke, or we will never hear about this "NFL GameDay" streak again. I'm hoping for the latter.

Wishful thinking.

Hey Bluemonkey...regarding the Texas game: Guess what? The Titans will be watching the Super Bowl from their living rooms, while the Pats are playing.
In other words, a win is a win. Nobody's going to look back a year from now and care about the score.

No, but it points out how they may not win this weekend. They are not that great.

14 GAMES IN A ROW!!!

But they're not that great.

Forget it...it's not worth arguing with somebody over this who has no clue about the subject.

If you want me to agree with you just because you said they have 14 game winning streak I am not going to. There not going to win. And that proves nothing.

Kansas City had a good record and they are not any where near the Super Bowl. Things fail. They will fail and the Panthers will maul the Patriots.

I used to be a Pats fan, but no longer.

Cannot stand the coach. And the players seem to have taken on his machine-like smugness, a kind of veiled arrogance. They all try so hard, TOO hard, to pat each other on the back to send the "we're a team" message out, but it just doesn't ring true. Kind of like everything out of the coach's mouth.

They are an effective team, but they will never be a popular team outside of NE.

When do the SOX start ????????????????

Blue,

The Patriots almost lost to the Titans? That's your big knock on the Patriots? How many games this year did the Panthers almost lose? I'll tell ya. Just about every f*cking one! And that was against mostly mediocre NFC teams! The Patriots are 9-0 against winning teams this year. The Panthers are 4-3. The Patriots have a better defense, a more experienced quarterback, and a better-coached team. The Panthers got lucky against the Rams, and then they beat the Eagles, who probably wouldn't have even made the playoffs if they were in the AFC. You have fallen into the superbowl underdog hype trap, pal. When you're flipping the channel midway through the third quarter because you realize the Panthers have no chance in hell, maybe then you'll get it.

The point was, because it was missed, the Texans are an expansion team. That was the point.

Oh, and I thought your point was that the Texans aren't very good, which might actually make sense. The fact that the Texans are an expansion team means nothing at all, it's just a word you learned that you think means "bad". The Titans have been in the playoffs for at least the last couple years, and they are always tough. Yeah, the Pats "Almost lost" to the Titans, but the last time I saw them, they were beating the **** out of the Colts, who are better than any of the NFC teams. And Delhomme is no Peyton Manning. Good luck with your underdog pick. I swear, it's a lock. Bet your house on it. Or your live babies.

I gotta admit, I was gettin' worried there for a while. Wow! I have to admit, the Panthers were a LOT better than I expected. That really was a great game. And the fact that I thought it was gonna suck made it even better.

By the way, did anyone else see Justin Timberlake reach over and pull out Janet Jackson's right tit at halftime?

After reading monkey and angie's responses, I just have to laugh. Hearing people who have NO clue about sports in general spouting opinions is pretty funny. "The pats will never be popular...they are arrogant." "They will lose."

Hey monkey, good call. What happened with rock solid video game prediction? Hope you didn't lose much money..oh wait, you probably don't realize people actually bet on these things.

Pats: becoming a dynasty?

Hey Slappy, I never said they wouldn't win. I said I don't think they will be a POPULAR team, and I still don't.

But who really cares, right ? They won. And that's all that matters, i.e. the ends always justify the means. Congratulations !

BTW, you really don't have any idea how much I know about sports. The fact that I don't like the Pats make you believe my sports knowledge is limited ........... curious reasoning process.

Uh, yea...spoken like a knowledgable woma...I mean, sports fan.
Since you obviously don't pay attention to the Patriots, they are one of the LEAST arrogant teams in sports, not just football. No cell phones in the end zone, no trash talking other teams(Warren Saap, the Titans, Steelers). They just went out and won 15 games in a row.

I never said that the Patriots were not good. I knew they were. That doesn't mean that I have to want them to win. Plus if the Patriots were all wonderful, as you want them to be, they would have smashed the Panthers and beat them by more than 3 points. But since the Panthers have the longest pass in Super Bowl history, they intercepted Tom Brady, they held their own against the popular favorite, I would pick them again,

I don't dislike the Patriots and never did I think they were cocky. Brady is a very down to earth guy and keeps his team a team and kept repeating that they didn't win all those in a row because of one person but because of the whole team.

A dynasty is far fetched. But they are good. They just won't get back. I am a Texans fan. Next year is their year to make the Super Bowl.

Hosting the Super Bowl is mass fun.

Next year it's the Pats against the Cowboys! The two best coaches in football, battling it out.

Again, it's YOUR OPINION that the Pats are not arrogant. And I used the term "veiled arrogance". All that "team" talk is so contrived. It just doesn't ring true. When push came to shove, Lawyer Milloy was out for himself, as Ty Law will no doubt be this year. More than the players, however, it's the coach whose attitude makes the team unlikeable. He is an effective machine-like entity, but clearly IN MY OPINION, not likeable.

Trash talking is part of a style, sometimes even a a tactic. Larry Bird talked trash with the best of them. And I have no problem with that "style".

Until Bellicheck arrived, I was a huge Pats fan. I have followed the team for years as I have followed the Sox and Celtics. I am quite secure in my "knowledge" as a sports fan.

How's THAT for arrogance !! Razz
