How do you get your own smileys to use anywhere you want?

I notice some people have really cool smileys they use on a message board, but the smileys wont be listed on the board. What's the trick to this?

Thanks!

They just use use pictures from other sites the same way they'd post any other picture on a message board.

Here's one of many sites that host smilies for people to use on message boards: www.mysmilies.com

If you need help with posting pictures, click here: www.able2know.com/forums/faq.php?mode=bbcode#9

Also, some chatrooms & messageboards have their own special strings of text or punctuation to get certain undocumented smilies.

There's a skyscraper ad running here on A2K that has 6,000 thousand emoticons for free...

edit: It's Smiley Central...I just saw it and clicked on it...

Those wouldn't work on the boards here though, unless you first uploaded them to some web server.

Are you sure? They work on other messageboards for me. Let me try a couple here......

Oh okay....I haven't used that software (for one thing it bundles their 'My Web Searchbar' which I don't want), & I'd thought the images were only downloaded onto your harddrive, and weren't available from their web servers. I guess that's not the case.

By the way, welcome to able2know!

Thanks for the welcome
Monger... I appreciate it. I didn't know how to use Smiley Central on a messageboard till just a few nights ago. I'd had it for a few months but was just using it in e-mails. http://www.geocities.com/bat3193/smiley3/hi01.gif

Everytime I tried to post it to a different messageboard, I always got the same notice...couldn't post to that website...so I figured each site had some kind of control on it so they weren't allowed. http://www.geocities.com/bat3193/smiley1/SMILEYMOODY.gif

Then one night I saw a really cute smiley on the board I regularly post on, and right clicked and checked properties..IT WAS SMILEY CENTRAL! http://www.geocities.com/bat3193/smiley2/scared1.gif

I pm'd the lady and she told me she had only downloaded it the night before and was having a hoot with it already. http://www.geocities.com/bat3193/smiley2/ac005.gif

She was good enough to explain to me how to do it, so I felt a little stupid that I hadn't been able to figure it out myself. I really like that site, so I thought I'd let you guys know that it does work.
