Carl Jung's Archetypes- the myths of modern life and dreams

Carl Jung came up with an idea of 'archetypes' intrinsic to what I am going to tentatively refer to as 'the human condition'. These include but are not limited to, hero, nuturer/mother, martyr, villian, the innocent, the trickster, the underdog, etc. (yea yea, crude titles).
He claimed that ostensible in the evolution of 'mythology' of cultures across the globe there exist certain abstract 'motifs' that pivot on these 'archetypical characters' that are universal, present in all myths. This has been confirmed by Jospeh Campell, a leading theorist who has written multiple books on the subject, including 'Masks of God'.

Jung speculated that these 'archeypes' play a central role in everyday life, and in dreams are the stuff of the subconscious, not to mention the essence of social relationships. He even ventured into his own 'mind' to study these elusive constellations of human character and was able to determine the archetypes present in his own psychology. He even used this idea in a clinical method, which is still in vogue today (with some modifications), called 'psychoanalysis'.
Do you recognize certain archetypes in your daily life that dominate your character? Are you buying into this? Before you dismiss archetypes as mysticism acknowledge that the Jewish Kabbalah has archetypical foundations. In addition the greek pantheon of Gods and Godesses is the distilled web of dimensions of being human, distilled into divine, yet personable fallible 'characters'.

If you are looking for a veritable 'list' of archetypes, I suggest the rider-waite tarot card deck to begin.
I only offer tarot cards as a mean of beginning to visualize archetypes, not as a definitive list of the archetypes themselves. For this, you must research and introspect on your own.

disclaimer: take the 'descriptions' with a grain of salt. We 'embody' groups of tarot card traits. TAROT CARDS ARE NOT MEANT TO FORECAST EVENTS.
They are the mechanisms that influence our life circumstances.

They certainly play a central role in much of literature. Viz. Hermann Hesse.
