I will say, all of the Australians I know of on a2k appear to be fine, intelligent folks.

@Rockhead,
He had his good side. We were naturally at odds. Roger may know him best.

He used to live in Canberra.

@Rockhead,
and that character with the avatar of a squirrel with some kind of weapon

Wilso's definitely Australian. He changed quite a bit over the years.

@ossobuco,
i remember she was a student, had a few interesting exchanges

it's funny when internet folks just disappear, i remember a board i went to in the late 90's, it was a gaming board so lots of teens and early 20's folks, a kid from south america started a thread one day called, "how are we to know if anyone dies", which i thought was an interesting topic for a kid to start, basically asking if someone disappears will we ever know what happened to them

@joefromchicago,
You're a bad man.

It's all too real, too. At some polit fest ( I fear it was Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, which ought to know better ) theymgave little memorial dolls out, supposedly representing each country. They were about to give our PM a doll in Austrian national costume.....I think somebodynrealised and theyntoned it down a bit.

I will amend that one Australian I had forgotten about does not make the cut. But, it's the exception, not the rule, thus far.
As for Wilso, I don't agree with his style on the threads about religion, but that is all I have to say just now.

@Ceili,
HAVE we been courting a US base? I thought it was just something the US wanted as part of their ANZUS rent, so they could have more people to counter the increasing power of China in the region.

@hingehead,
I wonder how many people from any country have any real idea of what another country is like unless they travel a lot.

Off the point a bit, but amusing, is the number of USians I have met in transit who have warned me never to go to New York City, because those people aren't Americans, and they'll kill you for your wallet.

When I think of Australia, I think of requited, not unrequited love.

In the early 1980's, I worked with 4 women who met Australian tour guides in various parts of the planet, fell in love, moved to Australia, married, came back to Canada, and then settled back in Australia. It put quite the fear of tour groups into me.

@dlowan,
I meant it in a kind of tongue and cheek kinda way...
I don't imagine most Aussies want any part of foreign troops on their soil.

@edgarblythe,
That was one thing, but I first was stopped by his views about women, which startled me.

Not to dice up Wilso. By now he may well like women.

I am chary about men liking submissive women, it must be a pattern. Not to imply, I don't know these people.
