Well what exactly did you expect, you silly sausage, starting a thread about "spotted dick"?
And now you're upset with the responses you've received?
Oh come on now! Wink Neutral

@msolga,
I wasn't thinking of any possible sexual connotation of "spotted dick" when I posted this thread. My mind is not in the gutter.

Sure, sure, Jason, sex talk was the furthest thing from your mind when you started this thread.

The first time I visited the UK in a corporate setting, my colleagues in the Liverpool Home Office took me to lunch in the executive dining room. Desert was Spotted Dick. I bit my tongue and made no comments, but enjoyed the desert thoroughly (I love custard).

Returning to the US, I told everyone how I ate Spotted Dick and liked it! It made for a lot of laughs.

The Brits like to give personal names to any number of things which is quite endearing:

Jack Tar
Gerry - as in German
Bob's Your Uncle

And quite many more examples that I cannot think of at the moment.

Izzy or spendius?

@msolga,
Men have PENISES. Dick is a man's name and so is Willy. A cock is a rooster. When I first heard the term "spotted dick" I thought it was the name of a species of bird.

@Ceili,
Yes, there are birds called tits and boobies, so how is that different?:

Boobies:

A great tit:

To ME, a SPOTTED DICK sounds like a bird species.

@msolga,
"Spotted dick" is not a vulgar pejorative. You are calling me a sausage - why? Is that supposed to be phallic?

No, of course not, my good fellow. It's no more phallic than "silly goose" or "silly savage," an expression I frequently heard as a boy in my early teens during the early 1960s. Such expressions simply mean a silly person, often with a connotation of endearment Smile . And most of us are very fond of you, especially izzythepush, because you provide the occasion for so many laughs. It's not just you; it's the interaction between you and the other members (you know, the uncircumcized Philadelphians). All the witty reactions and putdowns. I used to worry about you. I was afraid you were getting your feelings hurt; but if that were true, you would have left a long time ago. I think you're enjoying every minute of this (despite your protestations of the ungodliness), and so is everyone else. If you stopped posting, most of us would be so sad because there would be no more laughs. Every day I look forward to my daily dose of Goldie. Smile So, to borrow an expression from Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, sock it to us! Twisted Evil Mr. Green

I was expecting a STRAIGHT FORWARD RESPONSE to the topic questions.

I did not have any innuendos in mind when I started this thread.

I don't call men's genitals any VULGAR PEJORATIVE terms - I call them what they are.

When I hear the word "dick" I think of a man's name.

When I heard the term "spotted dick" I thought it was a species of bird - I Googled it and found links to sponge pudding, so that peeked my curiousity.

THIS ISN'T A SEX THREAD - IF THESE DEGENERATE LOWBROWS AND GODLESS JACKASSES WHO RESPONDED TO THIS THREAD WANT TO THINK THAT THEY ARE IDIOTS AND THAT IS THEIR PROBLEM.
