Last week, I opened my Yahoo mail inbox, to find about 300 messages. They all were virtually identical, but each one had a different email address at the top. They were headlined Message Undelivered, or something like that. I deleted them, 50 at a time. Next day, another three hundred choked up my mail. Same message, all with different email addresses at the top. After three times of this, I opened each one individually and marked it as spam. That was two days ago. Since then, no more has appeared in the inbox. I have not worried about the spam folder. I think I handled it well, but, is there a better way to handle these situations?
@edgarblythe,
Get a new email address and ditch Yahoo mail.
I have never seen this problem but Yahoo should have prevented it.
Next time, if it happens, never open up the messages to individually mark them spam. They may contain malware hidden in some kind of active script.
Aaack, edgarb. Naturally enough I've no advice but commiserate.
Yahoo does have a customer service link, but it has for years been near impossible to find for the average customer. I think Robert noted it once on a2k, and I saved that, but I've had computer crashes since then, thus losing the link.
Maybe others here knows how to get their attention..
@edgarblythe,
Instead of just deleting them, mark them as spam. That will block the senders address as well as deleting the message. Now, I know they are using different addresses, but they probably don't have in infinity of addresses to choose from. Also, this will help yahoo make future decisions on your behalf.
@roger,
Done that, roger. Thanks.
@roger,
what do you do in the case that the address is yours? I get many every day - I try to sell me Viagra, rolexes, even attractive russia women.
@Linkat,
What do you mean? Are you getting spam that's reported as coming from your own address? If so, that's a new one on me, but why not mark it as spam anyway? I can't see how you lose; you probably don't write to yourself all that often, anyway.
@Linkat,
that sounds like a virus or worm.
I'd get it looked at...
@Rockhead,
That's always a possible. Sometimes, a person's computer gets taken over and starts sending spam to the entire mailing list. Then, you've got to make a decision whether contact with them is worth the endless spam their virus is generating.
I was hit by this early this year. I notified the person, but continued receiving such spam for two more weeks. I finally had to block her address.
@roger,
was she canajun...? I had a similar problem.
@Rockhead,
I imagine we were in the same address book.
@roger,
Yes I do. I think someone some how got into our work email system and was able to get addresses. I've also received email from other people from the same company - but for some reason I get lots from my own email address.
Sometimes though - I do include myself in reply alls just to get a copy - although that probably isn't necessary as it will also be in my sent box.
This might not relate, but on the tabs on top of my screen, indicating which site I'm on, the one that says yahoo alternates with the name "Jamie Taub 222." When I click on it-trying to make it go away-nothing happens, it just keeps alternating with yahoo.
Don't know what it is or what to do.
@Diane,
Diane, that's likely someone trying to chat with you. You can open it and block them.
@Diane,
I am not literate enough to know how to make it stop.
@Diane,
Say a Hail Mary and three Our Fathers.
@edgarblythe,
I got a strange message on my A2K inbox last week .....

If you're still having trouble with it tomorrow, Diane, let me know when we see each other at the dog park and I'll follow you home and take a look at it, that is if Sally Dog won't object to having Dolly and Madison as guests for a few minutes.
Alternatively, I can come over after dropping them off at home to take a look at it for you.
I'll ask about it when I see you tomorrow.
