What are your national delusions?

All this tea talk reminds me of a funny thing people do with the value of being a connoisseur (how they will generally over-value their taste in it). XKCD said it the best so I'll leave it to him:

Alt text was "Our brains have just one scale, and we resize our experiences to fit."

I, for one, bow to your leprechauns.

And monotremes.

You got that right!

The lack of claspers would cause you some disappointment, though, methinks?

You do love a good clasper.

I thought you got them by riding cycles of various descriptions?

@Robert Gentel,
I was just browsing around, reading randomly, found this and thought of this thead ...

Sweden’s big immigration idea: the ‘Canada model’

Quote:
“It was hard to convince Canadian academics to write about their own country as a positive example,” Mr. Adahl said. “They’re used to writing critically of it, and thinking of its failings, but I had to persuade them to write about Canada as a positive example – it wasn’t easy.”

Canada's national delusion? that we get nothing right. Very self-deprecating as individuals and as a country.

I'd actually been thinking about it since earlier today in the "protest" thread, when I posted the link about David Dodge, Canada's former Governor of the Bank of Canada - in effect Canada's chief economist at the time our economy was reworked. Why we don't hop up and down more pointing out how he got it right ... that's our delusion ... we don't get things right or if we do, we don't want to mention it.

@JTT,
I COULD tell you...but ought I? Is it better to encourage self-learning, or to follow what appears to be the holy Sanskrit of Able2know philosophy and vouchsafe unto you the answer thereof? (Sorry...my new broom closet has me writing all King James version of the bible like...)

@dlowan,
I've always "known" them as being mammals that lay eggs, just now read that the taxonomy may change.

I like to think of them as an epic acid trip that god was on. The platypus blew my mind as a kid.

I thought of what might be the stupidest delusion there is: that whatever god you believe in blesses your country and has a soft spot in his heart for your nation.

Seriously, even if the Abrahamic god existed why on earth would he bless America over some other country?
