RainSoft Silver Series Proper Maintenance

I have a RainSoft Silver Series that was installed 31/2 to 4 years ago. I just found out YESTERDAY that the power to the device was never turned on. So it has just sat there since. With the same salt from day 1 and the same settings. I connected the power to it yesterday and changed the date and time dial and started a manual regeneration. The thing kicked on and was pretty loud. First time i've ever heard it running i was happy. I went out for work this morning and realized the thing was still running though so i looked at the manual and figured out how to turn off the manual regeneration that i started the day before. I've also read that if it sits there pushing water out the "Valve" may be blocked. Can anyone explain how to properly clean out the machine. Im guessing i should fully remove all the salt from the salt holder but can anyone explain where to go from there. The manual that comes with the machine is poor at best. Also none of the date or time knobs have moved sense i set it yesterday. Im thinking they should but i dont know for a fact.

@mikegainesville,
Just want to thank everyone that read this for there replies....NOT! Any way i called the "Big Bad Rainsoft" as many others on here woudl lead you to believe and they were actually super helpful. I explained my situation and there support staff quickly pointed out that the timer mechanism on the system may be bad and should be replaced (I had the old manual knob timer mechanism) The staff indicated that they do not sell/make parts for the older mechanism that i would need to get the upgrade to the new Electronic timer. THey gave me a part number and asked me to call back the next day to speak with someone in customer service and exlpain my issue. THe next day i called back but was told they normally want the customer to go through the local dealer to purchase and install the upgrade. I explained to them my frustration with my local dealer and that i'd atleast like to give it a shot replacing it myself. The CS rep said she'd have to clear it with her manager and that she'd call me back. WIthin an hour or 2 i received a call from a very nice manager who took my name down and sent me Free of Shipping the new Electronic Time Clock conversion kit with all the instructions on how to replace it. At no tiem did anyone even ask/look into how old my ssytem was or really if i even owned one. They sent me the part and it took me about an hour or so to install it. Everythign works fine now. Honestly to all the people havign issues just give there customer service liine a call. They dont bite! 1-800-860-7638 And like i said they never even asked me how old my system was they were happy just to make me happy! Best of luck to everyoen else with isues!
