So, my question is fairly simple (I hope). I am a new college student and also a ZEALOT video game player. I am in the market for a computer (PC most definitely, but laptop or desktop doesn't matter). I am wondering what would be a good purchase for me. I am trying to stay under approx. $800 USD

Couldn't give you an exact answer but with only $800, get a desktop. Equally priced laptops will always have less performance - and likely not enough for a "ZEALOT" gamer. Even better, try a used desktop (1 or 2 years old).
$ 800 should be able to get a good point pc machine, fully meet your needs.
