Next week Antonio is going on a school field trip to boyd hill nature preserve. I don’t remember going on field trips when I was in the first grade, I think that’s too young, and I’ve been thinking horrible thoughts of him riding on a school bus. It makes me nervous. His daddy isn't too thrilled about it either.

Am I just being a worry wart?

I’ll check back later, we are about to leave for din din with friends.

@jcboy,
My kid was definitely going on field trips in first grade -- started in kindergarten I think.

She LOVED 'em, don't worry.

What are you worried about exactly?

@jcboy,
I think because of the "fire/murder" and the couple who locked their shop and the wife hid in the bathroom, you minds are focusing on negatives at the moment and hense the worry, through that fear.

Antonio is going to have a blast. Just be there to drop him off and watch his excitment and be there to pick him up and really watch his excitement Smile

safer than riding in most cars - check the stats - you'll end up buying your own school bus

far safer than any truck and most SUV's as well

1st grade doesn't seem too soon

there is an upscale daycare in the tower next to the one I work in - we occasionally see the mid-size kids (they look to be about 3 or 4 years old) heading out on group excursions - they even take them on the subway to go up to the museum

@jcboy,
I'm sure I cried my way through the first week of first grade (only child, almost no experience with other children). Luckily I had Sister Marceline Marie to set me up, me and thirty or forty others. We didn't have field trips, but I think St. Monica's was where I learned to play at all, including with others. JCBoy probably knows of Santa Monica as a place.

@jcboy,
If you are still nervous about it, call the school and see if they could use a volunteer on the field trip to help herd the kids.

You'd make a great sheepdog.... I mean shepherd.

I’m not the one concerned. He’s being a nervous nelly again.

He watched some TV news program the other night about a bus crash and the school bus didn’t have any seatbelts. Now he’s concerned about safety on the bus.

Then he brings up the fact that there are alligators at the preserve.

Sometimes he’s just a little too overprotective and I love him for that but he needs to loosen up just a bit.

@sozobe,
We got home a little late and I fell asleep.

I did see the program on TV about the school bus accident, there was a camera on the bus and the kids were thrown about the bus when it was struck by the car.

Then I was thinking how can two adults possibly watch 30 six year olds in a park? And it’s true there are alligators, one kid wonders too close to the water and could be snatched up rather quickly. Its not the safest place to take little kids.

I wouldn’t mind so much if they were going to say a museum or someplace indoors but that park can be dangerious.
