I hope this is in the right area and if so i hope someone can help....I have an excell file that has suddenly changed itself (?) to a read only file and i cannot access it.... at least the message that i get says that it is a read only file...i have been using this file regularly....anyone have any ideas about how to recover this?

Right click on the file, and select "properties" then under "attributes" uncheck "read only".

excell problem
Thanks very much for your reply to my question....

I already tried that (changing the attributes) but the file was not marked as read only- it was marked "archive"......so i figured the file was corrupted in some way......i did notice that the size was greatly reduced from my back up (5 days old). I finally opened the file and copied the data to a new work sheet and that worked just fine.......k just couldn't save the original file but i could open it.....go figure!

Wow. This sounds like something my accounting program would pull. Wish I knew what were going on in your excel program.

You might try to the "Save As" option for the original file. Save it under another name and it may be fine.
