DVDs: Public Library vs. Netflix

I haven't had any experience with Netflix, but I do borrow from the library.

Occassionally, I do have a problem with a DVD getting "stuck", but most times it's because there is dirt or grease on the grooves.

When cleaning doesn't work, it's due to someone being careless with the DVD and having put a bad scratch on it.

The advantage, to me, is that it's free.

I believe they have a machine (some DVD rental stores have them here in NYC) that cleans, polishes, and removes scratches off of the DVD's by buffing the clear protective layer of the DVD that covers the information layer on the bottom of the DVD that holds the bytes and files of the DVD film.

When people return the DVDs they can report problems with it and Netflix replaces the DVDs, taking the bad ones out of circulation.
