@cicerone imposter,
Perhaps Herald meant to say 3-4 B.C.

Pope Benedict makes some controversial statements in the book. He writes of how the Gospel of Matthew claims that Jesus was born when Herod the Great ruled in Judea. However, given that Herod died in 4 B.C., Jesus must have been born earlier than Exiguus originally documented. Arguments surrounding Jesus’ exact date of birth have confounded scholars for centuries. Even the Gospel of Luke contends that the birth took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria in A.D. 6.

Romeo replied: Christmas is Jesus's birthday, so if Pagans used to celebrate it, good for them..
Neologist came in with: You really believe that?

Well that's what Jimmy said..Smile
And even you JW's acknowledge that Christmas was a pagan festival.
At least pagans celebrate Christmas even if you JW's won't..Smile

It might be, or it might not, nobody knows for sure.
A bit of detective work by rummaging around in the New T indicates that Jesus was possibly born sometime in autumn.
Personally I don't care when the exact date of his birth was, Dec 25th is just another day to me same as any other and i don't "celebrate" it in any way..Smile

@Romeo Fabulini,
I'm an atheist, but celebrate Dec 25th with family. Any excuse for families to get-together is a good thing!~

Yeah. I know. Sorry for your misery. Our family took advantage of everyone having time off, though. We had a ball on the Washington coast. My poor grandkids! How they missed celebrating the victory of the sun god.

Absolutely! When folks wish us a Merry Christmas, we gratefully thank them. After all, to them it is the most well meaning gesture. Why rain on the parade?

We holy men don't do "celebrate", that's why many of us prefer to shut ourselves away from the materialistic world in remote monasteries or in our apartments and wouldn't have it any other way..Smile

@Romeo Fabulini,
I may have discovered a logical explanation as to why majority choose to have nothing to do with me..

Ignorant of knowledge I am. Knowledge about whether there is a god or not. As if I refuse to read the bible. You won't find me doing so.

Christians read the bible, yes? And also have such happy lives, connected with one another. Look down on certain people because they're not of god. Why else, right? I mean christians are such good people they hate no one. Sarcastically speaking.

Let me try to balance this out. My life/nothing but depression/wanted to, tried to, be a good person, do right in life, never could thinking god, jesus christ was the answer. to not be depressed, in all honesty I was attending church at what three, four years of age, throughout school and little here and there afterwards and never seemed to understand anything/so confused/felt I could never understand anything, anyone.. I don't know. Everything similar to as mentioned. I'm still not making sense of this.

Is this me coming out? I don't know. What I mention is topic related?

Let me guess, "Could it be because you do not believe?

So you claim to have the same faults as everyone else? How does this make you different?

Are they all happy?
Do you think this makes them different than other groups? Are there less of them making mistakes than atheists or agnostics, less of them being alcoholics, less divorce and so on? No I am not saying they are worse but are you certain that they are living happier lives?

@reasoning logic,
And yet you defend them so. Angry, upset with my words as mentioned. You must. Defend your people. All christians should, yeah? Because they're always caring what others think of them.

"We must do right by living our lives by the bible/ten commandments." They say.
"So we need to have nothing for those who disobey the ten commandments for they are bad people." They obviously feel.
Oh. There are other people, religions that follow the ten commandments? All must have nothing for one who has suffered their life of depression, ignorant of knowledge due to, resulting in being oblivious of their actions. For that individual's actions went against their beliefs.
No one understands. No one seems to forgive and accept. that person's then situation at hand.

Yeah. Seems as if no one knows what forgiveness, love, else more similar to is. I'm sure your forgiven for not wanting to accept one as mentioned. There will always be love, mature love.

I am allowed to love. I've no reason to be angry with anyone.

Mate, what's all that krap about people "choosing to have nothing to do with you"? What people?
And what does "ignorant of knowledge" mean? What knowledge?
As for christians "looking down on you", a lot of so-called christians look down on me too but I don't give a rat's ass about them..Smile

I'm 65, my parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, brother-in-law, a nephew and some friends are all dead, I never married or had kids and live alone and haven't had sex for 11 years, but amazingly I feel GREAT, better than i've ever felt in my life..Smile
Like I said, I regard Jesus as my Gang Leader and it's as if his power and strength is constantly downloading into me because I'm logged onto him, it's something atheists can't understand, it's a POWER thing..Smile
"Everybody tried to touch Jesus because power was coming from him" (Luke 6:12-19)...Jesus said -"Someone touched me, I know that power has gone out from me." (Luke 8:46)

And we too can "touch" him to get a power download by just mumbling a few words to get connected such as "Jesus remember me" when we're tired, lonely, fed up. No need to go to church (i don't) or get baptised (i haven't been) or any of that stuff..Smile
"Our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power" (1 Thess 1:5)
"Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power" (Ephesians 6:10)

Google "origins of Christmas" or "Saturnalia". This is something you could have investigated for yourself.

Saturnalia is nothing in comparison to the Tomb of Osiris ... von Orion (8.500 B.C.) ... and Mother Gea.
When talking about Christmas we all should be rather careful what Christmas is all about.
Christmas is not 'Google origins' - Christmas is a state of mind. If you don't understand this, you don't understand anything of the other.
