@Sturgis,
Sturgis, You have my complete and total sympathy. I have zero tolerance for neighbor noise. I'm not talking about normal life noises. I'm talking about inconsiderate don't-give-a damn-about-anybody noise.

You have my permission to off the hammerer. Justifiable homicide.

I'm starting a new editing job. I got the files yesterday. I decided to open them today. I can't get them open. The editor who sent them to me is on vacation for a week.

I can't lose a week. Hey, I can't afford to lose the weekend.

Gag and aaaaaargh. Also phooey. Other assorted R-rated words.

@Roberta,
My sympathy, Roberta.
I wish I could think of some way for you to open the file.
But, of course, I can't.
<sigh>

In the meantime, as you wait for this holidaying editor to return to work .... swear & curse as much as you like!

And I'll join you!

Bugger, bugger, bugger! Evil or Very Mad

@Roberta,
Any chance of talking to an associate of the editor? Not that I know if that would be a smart or dumb move, work wise. I don't have to open many big files on my getting-older-now machine, which isn't a pc anyway, so I'm no help.

Start an opening files thread?

@ossobuco,
olga, I swear and curse a lot even when I can open files. I just take it up a notch for special circumstances. Thanks for the support.

osso, I plan to talk to someone on Monday and possibly open a thread looking for help. Thanks for the suggestions. Just PO'd. Let's face it. It doesn't take much to get me going.

@Roberta,
I get a little snappy myself..

speaking of which, I just got a kvetch surprise. A fly landed on my hand.
A fly? It's nearly Thanksgiving. I didn't have a fly in the house all summer..
What a noive!

I'm aware this is a particularly thoughtless kvetch since many in the world suffer flys terribly. Still, what the hell is a fly doing here?

@dlowan,
I think I figured out how to access the files. I just hope I can remember what I did.

I searched 3 stores and couldn't find butternut squash. I rarely have a desire for butternut squash; but, now that I do, I can't find it anywhere.

So ends my random mild kvetch of the day (which has been eating at me for about a week).

@Sturgis,
Sturgis, Wanting and not having. Phooey. Craving and not having crave fulfillment. Double phooey.

Not healthy to hold those kvetches in. If you've been feeling it for a week, you shoulda said something.

I've never had butternut squash.

I was craving a bakery brownie, but the steenkin' bakery was closed.

Life is tough.

@Sturgis,
you're a longish walk from me...

why don't you tell me how you like it prepared, and I'll make it and come back and tell you how delicious it was and stuff?

really give you something to kvetch about...

@Roberta,
I'd mail him one, but the last thing I mailed to the big city froze in transit...

I also got an acorn squash. I think.

smoky mighta brought me a gourd, too. hard to say with him.

I'll ask him tomorrow where he got them. might be part of a centerpiece not intended for eatin'...

he can be a hoot sometimes. fuzzy...

@Rockhead,
Hmm...now that's a tempting offer; but, I'll pass on your method.
Actually, it's surprisingly easy to prepare.

Step 1. Place butternut squash in cooler, place cooler in mailing box, have FedEx or some other overnight courier ship it to me and I will ship it back with the recipe and photos, maybe even a video.

I mean I'll ship the box back with the recipe and photos, it wouldn't be right to force the squash to travel back and forth so much.

Seriously, take a quick run on the internet and make a decision just what you want to do with your squash. Many preps are very simple, involving little more than cutting it in half and roasting in an oven. Other preps can be more complicated and time consuming.
