deep inside the soul
Of winter's warmth
and springs that grow so cold,
No two seasons hold us
Captive.
We forge the bars ourselves.
And in that steel we see
The rust beneath
That no emery or rough paper
Can relieve.
A hand that vigorously
Causes friction warm
I still believe in birds
And hear their song.

Good evening, Letty and others...from Virginia where it was 70 on Sunday but is predicted to hit 20 tonight.

When I was in high school I had some great teachers, including some English teachers who made us write and write constantly. An essay a day in the ninth grade.

I had some fine instructors also in college.

But poetry was something that I was never exposed to. Perhaps I was, but didn't think it was a "guy" thing.

Most of the "Original Writing" on A2Know is poetry but pretty much all of it goes right over my head, never having any impact.

I have never been to opera performances and know nothing about them, but I can end up sitting in my car for an hour on a Sat afternoon when I get home listening to the Met broadcast on NPR. Wierd. -john-

Beside stormy waters
calms a soul of fervent waves
Uplifted in constant motion
refusing the tide
Existing only with the promise
that tomorrow the sun will shine
once more
The sparkling water will awaken anew
as all depths of deep emotion
pass yet to another shore

Good morning, my friends

Johnboy, Nothing weird about loving opera, and I totally understand how men must think that poetry is not their thing; however, when one looks at all the "guys" who have written such lasting and beautiful verse, it must give you pause for thought. Smile

Wow! colorbook. You really got to me with those beautiful lines about the ocean and the shore. Captivating! Thank you.

cusick, Often it's when we are the most pensive that thoughts pour out in poetry, but there is always someone like you that keeps the spirit soaring. Thanks, cusick.
