This statement may not be necessarly aimed at his race. I mean, he could also be refering to the fact that Obama seens too young and inexperienced for the job. Then again, im analyzing only this statement, I dont know what Bill Clinton is like.
Hate isnt really a rational thing. If you think about it, hatred against other races is just like hatred against other nationalities, the poor/rich, religion, ideologies, sexual preference, etc.
Humans have the instinct to "divide" the world in people who are their family/friends/nation, and those who arent. And they tend to hate those who are outside those spheres, or deem them as uniportant or inferior, or all of those things.
Racist whites just happen to cling to the idea of race. Some people cling to the idea of nationality, hating those who they deem outsiders, etc.
