I'm no expert on the details of the law in question, but do know it was passed and enacted in accordance with the laws and democratic process of the state.

Perhaps not, george. The Dem legislators have filed suit against their own body charging that these laws are not being passed in accordance with the laws or constitution of the state. The Rep response (so far) is that the courts have no standing so that they can proceed as they have been.

Any truth in this?

The part about "the city nearly going bankrupt and being taken over by the state" is true.

The part about "loss of democracy and taking away fundamental rights" is nonsense.

The Democrats tried to use this issue to paint some sort of image of the governor being an evil overlord out to crush us, but all anybody did was laugh at them. It was pretty silly.

The Emergency Financial Manager Law will be on the ballot this November. I expect that the voters of the state will overwhelmingly endorse it.

I don't understand why it is legal to oust legally elected governments.

Because they are bankrupt.

If you wanna have bankrupt hellholes in your state, go ahead.

Michigan prefers to have competent management in charge of our cities.

Why doesn't the will of the voters count?

The state-level government was elected by voters too.
