I recently got a laptop and there is something that is puzzling me about it, tis no big problem but would be nice to know if anyone does know.
Theres a key labelled 'Fn' at the bottom of the keyboard (displacing the Ctrl key one space to the right) which appears to do nothing and it confuses me somewhat as to what it is for. Anyone know?
It stands for Function and can be used in combination with other keys, similar to the Ctrl (Control) key.
cheers verily!...i figured it wasn't entirely central to the laptop but guessing what it meant was starting to become irritating!
It should probably be the same color as the functions on the other laptop keys that are enabled by pressing it together with the other key.
all keys and lettering on the laptop are the same!
Are you sure that the print of the "Fn" characters are not a different color (say purple) and that some other keys have functions printed in that color on them?
Aha! Thankyou CdK. I obviously had not opened my eyes wide enough before now! I see now that the lettering on the Fn key is a rather icky shade of grey, as are the keys which it corresponds to.
There ya go, press the FN and the other key and it'll do the icky grey thing.
