I first heard these kids in New Orleans and then here in Chicago. I think they're great. And, yes, they've played at the Blue Moon.

@ossobuco,
I have been racking (wracking?) my brain, trying to recall where I'd heard of Clifton Chenier before ...
The penny just dropped! I was via this Paul Simon song, on his Graceland cd.
His homage to Zydeco music, I guess.
I hope posting it here doesn't offend you purists out there. Wink

Thanks for the tip JPB! I was able to look into it further with the info you gave me, and found that the song is called "Hot Chili Mama." Unfortunately, I couldn't find a vid for it on Youtube.

@InfraBlue,
You can download the song off of the "Best of" album for $0.99 from here (track 22)

The entire Hot Chili Mama album is also available in vinyl, cd, download, or a 45RPM single here

If you didn't post that, msolga, I would have.

Edgar introduced Zachary Richard earlier in the thread. This is one of my favorites.

Briggs Brown (although this is his sister Megan singing the lead)

Belle Louisiane is a song written by Zachary Richard and most often performed by La Bande Feufollet with the vocals of Brittany Polaski. It won the Cajun French Music Association's Song of the Year Award in 2002. Both Avoyelles Parish and Terrebonne Parish are referenced in the lyrics.

Lyrics:

English translation:
Beautiful Louisiana, I sing my heart for you
Cajuns' land, so fertile and generous
Beautiful Louisiana, I sing my heart for you
Open your arms and hold your dear child

I love your bayous, your meadows, and your woods
From Avoyelles to the far end of Terrebonne
Your brave and welcoming inhabitants
Beautiful Louisiana, I sing my heart for you

Wherever life will to take me to
It's deep in my heart that I will keep you
Beautiful Louisiana, I sing my heart for you
Open your arms and hold you dear child
Wherever life will take me to
It's deep in my heart that I will keep you

Beautiful Louisiana, I sing my heart for you
Cajuns' land, so fertile and generous
Beautiful Louisiana, I sing my heart for you

switching to swamp pop for a minute. This was a Bobby Charles tribute at the HOB last year during Jazz Fest. It was about a million degrees in the room but everyone was having a good time.
