one cold beer
a cigarette sans filter
these last few days
have stirred my thoughts
clutching at straws
hope I don't break no camel's back
tracing loose ends
back to their source
finding back pages
faded text
smudged ink
somehow it makes no sense
I sit here conjuring words
in my head
they don't get to my fingertips
so I shut the door
stare at the floor
emotions tumble
dressed in mumbo jumbo
my confusion
wrapped
up
in
$9.00 bills
walking backwards
to my roots of youth
weaned in fertile ground
grown in desire
fed on curiosity
grew with strength
sullied with errors
here & there
love stops by
then has to leave
I have a glass
that's still half full
but
every
now
and then
it's half empty
hell's bells
are ringing
out loud
as I go thru
a 2nd childhood
scared
of what
I see
where to go
what to do
cryptic answers
give no clues
follow my nose
or
follow my heart
questionsquestionsquestions
as
the
years
pile
up
thinking sucks I think
I feel you 100%. I am writing a book of poetry and it is called My Mind, My Torture. I have found thought that thinking is so awesome yet so tiresome. I think there is a balance to everything in life. So keep on thinking because if you didn't we wouldn't have excellent writing like yours.

Oakman is back with words as universal as ever.
My way of saying that I am bookmarking this for more careful reading, Brit. <smile>

Follow your nose--follow your heart? follow your mind, Brit, that's where it starts.
and when Setanta says one word,
I think that you have just been heard.
goodnight, from Florida.

London at New Year -
Makes one think that thinking sucks.
But thinking is all.
So pour another glass
And remain out of control,
Which is what really sucks.
