What happens when you "select an answer" on a thread?

I notice when people respond to threads their posts read, "select an answer". What happens when you click on "select an answer" on someone's post? I've never done that on any of my threads since I've been posting here.

@JGoldman10,

as the author of a Question, you can award a red ribbon to the poster who you think provides the best answer.

this only works for Questions, not Discussions...

@Region Philbis,
No-I mean does the thread end when you do that or can the thread author and others keep posting to it?

@JGoldman10,

no, the thread does not end once a ribbon has been awarded...

@Region Philbis,
Can you have more than one best answer?

@JGoldman10,

the author can only award one ribbon, but a thread can have many good answers...

@Region Philbis,
I understand that, when a member has severl answers tagged as "best answer" , that member is voted as "OUTSDTANDING MEMEBR OF THE MONTH" which allows them to park in the Outwtanding member space at the huge A2K office complex in Bayonne.
