He was a man after God's own heart,
Who broke all the rules and yet remained true.
So easy to name
So hard to do
What the world expected
So surprised when rejected
By those whom he helped
Holding his mother at arm's length
Giving and taking strength,
So close to the portal
So near to the brink.
I heard him smile tonight.
Most wonderful, that sight.
You wrote very touching verse, Letty.
Is this someone dear to you, that you are writing of?
david
When I saw your reply to my post, I searched for your words. I immediately related to this one, guessing that it depicts the pain and the joy of watching our children grow to find their own path, wanting to save them and knowing they have to discover on their own. Maybe David is not your son, but the poem clearly depicts the surrender of someone you love. Thank you.
Morning pages, David is indeed my son who has been disabled for several years. He is a doctor, but only practiced for eighteen months. He is so young and so bright and has come close to death too many times.
Your response has made me feel that sharing this poem has been worth the pain that it cost me.
Yes! Sharing your words of pain truly helps all of us. As a mother as well, you reassure me that my feelings are normal and that when I turn to writing as sometimes the only thing I can do for them, that I possess the powerful ability to help someone else who may be struggling with surrendering their own. Thank God for the pen and thank you for sharing your experience to give others hope.
Letty this was wonderful hun
