I did my taxes a week ago. I will be getting $1 back for my Federal refund. Will have to pay $61 to the state of New York. I will try and dissuade anyone from using Turbotax ever again. They're no bargain and still getting more expensive each year.

@tsarstepan,
I don't need a computer to help screw up my taxes.

@tsarstepan,
We can’t do our taxes yet, but I just noticed our tax documents are now available online with E-Trade so I’ll call the tax attorney and let her know. That’s all she’s waiting for.

@tsarstepan,
Ha - I have to pay $1 for my state taxes and pay $41 for Federal. I do not use any turbo tax - I simply use the free etax filing crap they have --- then call my FIL who does taxes for a living to ensure I didn't miss anything new.

Our tax attorney finished our taxes yesterday. We’re getting almost eight grand back in taxes! It’s about time those sons of bitches gave me something back! Cool

Too bad I couldn't write off the bird or we would have gotten more back!

@jcboy,
That's a lot of money back, but you had the 2 additional kids in 2015, so it's well deserved.

I should get $1500 back, but have to pay $500 federal taxes.

@CalamityJane,
I changed my deductions to zero so they take more out each month. Plus I make a quarterly tax payment and I on purpose over estimated what my taxes owed would be for that quarter. I like the idea of paying more throughout the year and getting something back instead of having to pay.

@jcboy,
Over paying throughout the year isn't a bad idea considering end of year penalties if you haven't paid at least 90% of tax liability. Who knows, you might have unexpected income in the final quarter.

@roger,
Yep, that’s exactly right. I do some freelance work and two companies and they 1099 me every year. They sometimes give me more work than I anticipated and after invoicing I deduct a percentage for taxes and make a quarterly payment.

One friend of mine recommended me to her company to do a little work for them, I billed them $2,900.00 for a project and they paid me but as of today I have yet to receive a 1099 from them. I let me tax attorney know about the extra income because I didn’t want it to come back to bite me two years from now.

@jcboy,
Yeah, this is a good idea, but I always argue that should I die during the year, then the IRS has more of my money they won't return. So I never prepay anything with them.

It’s that time of the year again. I was waiting on one 1099 from a company I did some free lance work for, well it never came. I emailed the company and was told since they are a Corporation located in the Cayman Islands they are not required to send out 1099’s. Our tax attorney confirmed that was true but we are still going to claim the income. I’m not messing with the IRS!
Cool
