@chai2,
Chai? Do you tend to get refunds or do you have to pay the IRS each year?

@tsarstepan,
Hard to say.

I'll to get a small refund sometimes, not enough to make me rush to do it.
Some years I have to pay, so I'd rather put it off.

I'll get all my numbers together, then go back and make sure I didn't leave something out.

I enjoy working with numbers, so it's not a dreaded chore.

Taxes due April 18, not 15th, because of Abe Lincoln
By Mary Perez | Biloxi Sun Herald

Taxpayers can thank a little-known holiday in Washington, D.C., for extending the deadline to file tax returns until April 18 this year.

Washington observes the anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln signing the Compensated Emancipation Act that freed 3,100 slaves in the Capital on April 16, 1862. Because April 16 falls on Saturday, the holiday will be observed on Friday this year and tax returns aren’t due until Monday.

The April 18 deadline also applies to filing state taxes, according to the Mississippi Department of Revenue.

The extension isn’t the only unusual thing about this filing season.

“We’re not mailing out tax packages,” said Dee Harris Stepter, IRS media representative for Mississippi and Louisiana. Instead, IRS sent a postcard notifying the 8 percent of taxpayers who filed paper forms that they would not long receive them in the mail.

Tax filing deadline is nigh. Are you ready?
Don't look now, but the April 18 tax filing deadline is just around the corner. For those of us still plugging away, the good news is that it's easier than ever to file.

Getting back $729 in my Federal Income tax refund. For the past 8 or 9 years, it seems like I usually get $1000+. And horror of horrors, I OWE $165 to the sadsack state of New York.

Definitely not a boon year for me.

Just filed my tax returns this afternoon.

Federal refund: $139
I owe NY state: $124.
This year since I'm getting a net refund of $15! Thanks Obama! Rolling Eyes
Am I a part of the 1% now?

Ha, too funny.

Helfino why I missed this topic last year.

Anyway, I am the one who does the taxes around here. Turbo Tax is, along with the slow cooker and the flash drive, one of the greatest inventions of all time.

So far it's looking like over a thou back from the Feds and about $150 owed to Mass. but the weight-challenged lady has yet to sing.

@Irishk,
This letter can't be for real, is it?
It's a joke, right?

@chai2,
I think it's real Smile They posted in on their facebook account (not that that makes it authentic) but the form letter is similar to correspondence we've received and the toll free number shown in the letter is spot on. If it's a fake, it's a good one.

If it's fake, it'll show up in snopes eventually lol. In the meantime, it's nice to know the IRS 'sometimes' has a heart.

@Irishk,
Yah, I've read that they'll waive fees for almost any excuse - if you bother to ask them. So many people just pony up without saying anything...

@Cycloptichorn,
And every once in a blue moon they'll actually send notifications of overpayment. We've received two lol.

I have an appointment tomorrow with the tax attorney. The Puerto Rican has a dependent he can claim so he does better then me. In 2012 I did some contract labor with another company and they of course 1099 me. Now we also have rental income from Marco’s condo, the old house and the one next door to it! I was starting to pull my hair out a little tonight but I’ll wait and do that after the meeting with the tax guy.

Sons of bitches!
