"Num Lock"

I use a Microsoft Office keyboard, and there is no key marked "Num Lock". For whatever reason, various functions in Word require the use of Num Lock, including one method of accessing special characters like accented vowels.

Also, I can't make the numbers from the numeric keypad appear on the screen.

There is one key on the numeric keypad which is labelled Tab on top, but on the front it says Num with the figure "1" in a small square.

There is also a key at the top of the regular keyboard labelled F Lock. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what it does. The help function for this keyboard isn't very helpful. Rolling Eyes

Can anyone guide me through this maze? Confused

F lock will switch between a remapped keyboard and a regular one.

So if F lock is on some functons will be run instead of the normal key's function (e.g. F7 might launch a browser with s epecific site).

Dunno about the numlock, I'm sure it there but do not know that keyboard well.

There are also four odd little areas which light up at the appropriate time - I guess.

One is under the F Lock, and that's ok.

One has the same little square with a "1" inside it, and I can't figure it out.

The middle one has a Capital "A" inside a square, which lights up when Caps Lock is hit, so that one I understand.

The last has a downpointing arrow with a little line under it. What the arrow is for, and how it is accessed I can't figure out. I suspect it has something to do with the numeric keypad, but don't know how to work it.

"Num Lock"
Yes, it must be. Actually, after jiggling and fiddling with a variety of keys, I managed to get the letter symbols ("O" with two dots over it, etc) to appear, so that solved that.

But why oh why couldn't they just call it Num Lock, like everyone else?

Now all that's left is the fat black downpointing arrow.

If your goal was the characters you should simply turn on US International and you're set to key them in without using numeric codes.

I will write a short tutorial and give you a link.
