I have my actors resume written out, but I haven't included anything personal on it. What are some examples of ways to weave personality into an acting resume to make it appealing? How exactly does one go about getting an audition, is the process the same as applying for a regular job?
@JD3P,
Write a cover letter to express who you are. Yes, it's similar to applying for a regular job, but you need to know who is doing a casting call. Are you in a city with a theatre district? Do you know about getting an agent?
@Green Witch,
Thanks, I'll write a cover letter as well. I just wasn't sure if I should try to include a little about myself in the resume also. I'm currently in NJ and so far I haven't really found much opportunity here except local community colleges. I do know about getting an agent, but I don't even have head shots...this is all something I have to save up for.
@JD3P,
Well, at least you are near Manhattan. I think people still use
Backstage as a source for auditions in NYC. They probably have an on-line site. It's nice to have professional photos done, but even some shots taken with a digital camera and tweaked in Photoshop are acceptable.
Be sure your acting resume is one page only. If you can do anything unusual, list it under Other Skills (or some such category). It's a good way to work in some humor and personality. Gymnastics, singing, unusual accents, anything you can show off at the end of an audition if asked. (Double-jointed perhaps?)
