I am having trouble opening links on web sites, in particular video links some work but most do not, the same links open ok on my son's PC
any ideas ?
Perhaps you haven't installed the neede software, like e.g. macromedia, real player, etc?
(Usually, there is a notice/link for that.)
Hi Walter
I dont know for sure what I have actually got installed exept for 'quick time', how do I find out? and where do I install them if I dont have them?
I will be very gratefull for any advice
Regards
Challie
Charlie - Could you provide the URLs for a few of the links you are having problems with. That might help narrow down the problem quickly.
Hi fishin, one of the links I cant open is:
type: html document 'not encrypted'
http:/modelguns.co.uk/smgs.htm
any help?

Hi Charlie - In that particular case the problem is with the WWW site itself. Some of his image files that were listed in his HTML code are missing or have weird filename extensions.
Right: I can see all besides the ones at the top of the page.
ok guys, does that mean there is nothing I can do about it?
all those links open perfectly on my 2 sons computers

http://modelguns.co.uk/smgs.htm
Try the correct link. If it doesn't work let us know.
Tried it , it didnt work!

Hmmm... Interesting. I couldn't see several of the icons on my home PC but I can see them from my PC at work.
There seems to be something with the page's "fphover.class" applet. Every image that doesn't show up at home is uses that applet.
I presume from that ,we are now dead in the water.
Thanks anyway everyone

Mebbe not. I ran into something else last night that may lend a clue. Challie - go to this link
http://www.geocities.com/entity05/java/myjava.html and let me know if you can bring up the Java calculator.
Any chance it's a content filter? The page is about guns after all.
Hi Fishin I tried the Java calculator , no dice, just a blank square with a little icon in the corner.

Okies. I think I have the answer then. MS removed some of the Java stuff in the latest updates of IE (I think that was the result of a court ruling..). All of the items you are having problems with are Java applets.
Go here:
http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp and click on the "Get it Now!" icon in the green/yellow box and install Sun's Java Runtime module on your PC. After it installs try both sites again.

... and NOW I can see the before missed pics as well (not that I'm THAT keen on it  )!
Thanks, fishin. (And because an older IE-version is on my other computer, I hadn't had these problems there - doubles my thanks
)
Excellent! Glad to hear it worked for you Walter. I've run into this problem with at least 6 people in the last week alone and so far the "fix" is working 100% (including my own system.)
EUREKA everything now works fine
thanks fishin, your a mate.
