Now the second part of a documentary on the famine in Ireland,
it's causes and it's devastating effect on the Irish people.

The Great Famine was a period of great starvation, disease and emigration in Ireland between 1845 and 1852 during which the islands population dropped by 20-25 percent. Approximately one million people died and a million more emigrated from Ireland. The proximate cause of famine was a potato disease commonly known as potato blight. Although blight ravaged potato crops throughout Europe during the 1840s the impact and human cost in Ireland where a third of the population was entirely dependent on the potato for food was exacerbated by a host of political, social, and economic factors which remain the subject of historical debate. The famine was a watershed in the history of Ireland. Its effects permanently changed the islands demographic, political and cultural landscape. For both the native Irish and those in the resulting diaspora, the famine entered folk memory and became a rallying point for various nationalist movements.

MORE TO COME.

My grandparents were immigrants from Ireland. James Galway's music was one of my dad's favorites. It was his birthday on New Year's Day, so I dedicate these to him.

@Butrflynet,
Your Dad had impeccable taste, I'm sorry to hear he's not with us
any more, I hope he had a long & happy life.
Then again maybe he is still with us in spirit and I'm sure he would have
enjoyed listening to James. James Galway was a great favourite of
my Mam, so I'm sure she enjoyed it too, as did I.
I love young Lisa Hannigan from the County of Meath, the Royal County
as it's known. She's a great talent & I'll certainly be playing more of her.
The guy with her had one deep voice. Here's someone you might like,
Eleanor McEvoy.

Deliver Me.

Look Like Me.

Thanks For Posting B.

THIN LIZZY are an Irish rock band who formed in Dublin, Ireland, in 1969.
They are best known for their songs "Whiskey in the Jar", "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back in Town" & "Dancing in the Moonlight".
Thin Lizzy's leader, Phil Lynott was composer or co-composer of almost all their songs. He was one of the few black men to achieve commercial success in hard rock, and was the first black Irishman to do so. As well as being multiracial, the band drew their members not only from both sides of the Irish border but also from both the Catholic and Protestant communities.
In early 1975, Thin Lizzy toured the USA for the first time, in support of Bob Seger and Bachman–Turner Overdrive.
After a successful multi-band tour in support of Status Quo, the band recorded the album Jailbreak, which proved to be their breakthrough record. Released on 26 March 1976, it featured the worldwide hit "The Boys Are Back in Town" which reached no. 8 in the UK, and no. 12 in the US, their first charting record in that country. The band enjoyed great success over the years. Lead singer Phil Lynott died in 1986.
The line up of the band has changed over the years. The line up now is,
Ricky Warwick
Scott Gorham
Vivian Campbell
Marco Mendoza
Darren Wharton
Brian Downey.

Get the day off to a lively start.

Christy Moore. Lisdoonvarna.

I never missed the Lisdoonvarna music festival when it was on.
Seen Christy there with Planxty, Moving Hearts & by himself.
It was Ireland's best festival at the time, great days.
I don't think you'll ever see it's likes again, Health and Safety
have put paid to that.
