"material" and "substance" are not interchangeable.

a substance is an indivisible thing, whereas the "material world" can be divided, or at least portions of it can be divided.

to me substance and material are interchangeable , since both can be aspects of the same thing

in a different ordered state
they are the manifestation of energy and matter

Which sounds a bit like Spinoza. Have you read him?

@north,
your ignoring my first post.

there are only two substances, the mind or soul, and the entire material world.

existential potential

the difference between us is that , without the Universe energy and matter which is eternal or infinite in its existence , then there is no place for life to place its self and therefore no life enery and therefore no mind and soul

Why does existential potential always post silly questions with no scientific height, only serving as mastrubational nonsens?

I have to ask, are you skitzo since you ask such questions?

@existential potential,
I don't view the mind as being a substance but rather a reaction event. I like to use the chemical reaction of fire as an example of what I think the mind to be.

When you have a piece of carbon and bombard it with some oxygen molecules with just the right amount of energy so that those oxygen molecules combine with the carbon this is what we call fire. Most people don't look at it or know that it is just that simple.

Similar to this reaction i see the mind is just the reaction of the chemical process of electrical impulses crossing synapse of neuron cells. That process is what is the "fire" we call mind. When this process ceases to function so does the mind.

So for me the mind is an event, not a thing so much.
