Former Dutch EU commissioner says "recognizable" Jews are no longer safe in Netherlands due to Muslim anti-Semitism. Former European Union Commissioner Frits Bolkenstein said that Jews have no future in the Netherlands and recommended that they emigrate to the US or Israel, Dutch magazine Elsevier reported on Tuesday.

According to a book on Dutch Judaism, released this week, Bolkestein, former leader of the right-wing VVD party, said that due to anti-Semitism amongst young Moroccans Jews who look like Jews - those who wear kippahs or payot - should leave Holland for their own safety

"I see no future for recognizable Jews, in particular because of anti-Semitism, specifically in Dutch Moroccans, who continue to grow in number," Bolkestein reportedly said.

The former politician added that the many Arab television channels in the Netherlands contribute to the spread of anti-Semitism. He said he has no confidence in proposed measures to combat anti-Jewish sentiment.

"The Palestinian-Israeli conflict continues to fester," Bolkestein said. "I foresee no quick solution, and anti-Semitism will continue to exist. Moroccan and Turkish young people won't care about the measures."

One comment on FR worth noting:

Last Dutchman out needs to blow the dikes and let the North Sea have it back. The Netherlands wasn't settled, it was built. And it is better to destroy something you built that let it to the barbarians.

I'll bet that Nazi son-of-a-bitch would like to see them leave for his own peace of mind.

@Setanta,
You lose the bet - the former head of the VVD (now in government in Holland in coalition with another party) and EU commissioner Bolkestein is no neo-Nazi, and neither is his party or the EU commission. He stated what he believes to be the truth. Do you think you can prove him wrong?!

Jews should consider leaving the Netherlands and going to America or Israel because of anti semitism, particularly among Dutch Moroccans, former VVD leader Frits Bolkestein told free newspaper De Pers. Bolkestein said he sees no future in the Netherlands for Jews who stand out, such as orthodox Jews. Arabic tv senders are largely to blame for the anti-Jewish sentiment, the former EU commissioner said.

You allege that he is no neo-nazi--can you see into his mind and heart? Quoting the material already presented is a witless exercise, which doesn't at all address the strong possibility that he is voicing his own anti-semitism under another guise. Are you aware that more than 50,000 Dutchmen served in the SS during the Second World War? Not all of them were heroic members of the resistance, you know.

However, many people would not want to give Israel the impression that Holland is "Jew friendly" (by all its residents), since there could come a time when many Israelis address their sometimes claustrophobia, of living in their little country, and decide to go elsewhere.

In my own opinion, a country's willingness to have Jews or Moslems is based on what the country could better utilize, in context of the usual trades of each respective demographic. It is not a matter of who a country likes better, I believe. Pure self-interest that then is reflected in the media.

Well, when it comes to "pure self-interest," Bolkenstein's history suggests that it is a subject which he has mastered.

A number of MPs have criticised former VVD leader Frits Bolkestein for suggesting orthodox Jews should leave the Netherlands because of rising anti-semitism.
Geert Wilders used the microblogging service Twitter to say it is not Jews who should emigrate but 'the Moroccans who are anti-semitic'. And GroenLinks leader Femke Halsema said: 'people who are being threatened deserve protection in their own country'.

The Christian Democrats have called for a summit about combating anti-semitism involving both Muslim and Jewish organisations.

And the Dutch Moroccan information centre CIDM said Bolkestein's comments were scare-mongering.

' This is nothing other than the lastet generalisated insult targeting Dutch Moroccans,' a spokesman told the Telegraaf.
