Why believe in god? The theist perspective.

@izzythepush,
Now, let's discuss your comment about the Apostle Paul last week:
Paul WAS a Roman citizen. He wanted the Gospel to be spread all the way up to Caesar. He claimed Roman citizenship because this way he could appear before Caesar.
If he was concerned about death, he would never have made his appeal. He was about to be released. Paul had Felix and Festus in his hip pocket.

Bulma says the World is flat, do you believe that too?

I believe that modern day science is best at explaining how the physical world exists at the present time. There are not a whole lot of scientists who believe in a flat world today.
It IS possible that we are being deceived by scientists, especially with the dreadful way that Coronavirus has been handled. However, most scientists have believed in a round earth for hundreds of years.

@NealNealNeal,
Reading your comment "It IS possible that we are being deceived by scientists, especially with the dreadful way that Coronavirus has been handled.", is it possible other people are deceiving us, or is it just the evil scientists?

Of course other people are deceiving us. For example, the press deceives us all the time.
Why did I mention scientists? Because of my high regard for scientists, especially in the natural sciences (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, etc). However, even these scientists have their biases.
Now, in the past, the Catholic Church was the deceiver. Individual scientists who were largely born again Christians challenged the Church and were correct. So, I have had a high regard for science all of my life. However science can fall victim to biases. One example is the silly assertion that there are more than 2 genders. So, a man "becomes a woman" and beats the heck out of natural women in physical contests (e.g.---boxing).
Thus, even science has succumbed to biases.

@glitterbag,
This is what happens when truth conflicts with dogma.

It's like when the church forced Gallileo to admit he was wrong about the Earth revolving around the Sun.

It's not just abelief in God, it's a belief that God can only be acknowledged in a particular way and that any other forms of worship are blasphemous.

The Lollards were burnt at the stake during the reign of Henry V just because they wanted a Bible in English and did not believe in transubstantiation.

Wycliffe, their inspiration, and the first tranlator of the Bible into English was very much like Martin Luther, but just a bit too early for his own good.

@izzythepush,
I understand your concern here. However, in the year 2022 it is the "progressives" who are doing what you dislike, not the Church. We no longer have free speech in America due to progressives "cancelling" what they disagree with.

@NealNealNeal,
Why are so in favour of hate speech?

Attacking minorities, the weak and disenfranchised, all in the name of free speech.

Anything taken to an extreme is wrong and when you fetishise free speech it loses its original purpose.

Your ex president Trump launched a coup detat in Jan 21 and you're complaining about not being able to use the n word.

@izzythepush,
Why do you use such an extreme example as the KKK (99% of Americans know that it is insensitive to use the "n" word and don't use it). Likewise, I criticize you but don't prevent you from using words that show your bigotry towards people of low intelligence. We are in favor of free speech. And we believe in protecting the weak, including people with disabilities.
We also believe in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable, who are pre-born babies. If you are such a great historian, why don't you realize that Margaret Sanger wanted to eliminate the poor so that a "greater society" could exist. She was an enemy of minorities.
If you look carefully at laws supported by Planned Parenthood you would see that womens' right to medical safety is being reduced. All Planned Parenthood wants is money, money, money!!! The rights of medical staff who object to abortion are often taken away.
Since Crisis Pregnancy Centers allow women to see the baby in the uterus, many women choose to not murder the baby. These centers also give emotional support to women.
However, due to the greed of Planned Parenthood these centers are under attack. Some even suffer physical harm.

That is a rather sick perspective, Neal...and gratuitous to your position rather than a matter of facts.

For you to lecture on extremism and insensitivity...while suggesting that a woman who wants to terminate an unwanted pregnancy occurring in her own body...is murder...

...is so ludicrous, one might laugh out loud, were it not for the fact that people like you actually want to prevail on this issue.

I do not find you, your position, or you fellow travelers to be funny. I find you to be evil...at least as evil as you consider the people with whom you disagree.

@NealNealNeal,
You don't believe in protecting the rights of the vulnerable at all.

You support the second ammendment.

The child murdering second ammendment which causes more than one mass shooting every week this year alone.

It's funny how the unborn child is so important, but the born child can starve to death or be shot by the NRA.

A few cells are more important than a living breathing child, way more important.

It's all about forcing your beliefs on others and controlling women.

It's obscene.

Christ was a Socialist yet you far right Christians preach the very oppisite of what Christ taught.

If you're not a Socialist, you're not a Christian no matter how much Bible thumping you do.

The religious right is an abomination, anti freedom, anti life and anti Christ.

@NealNealNeal,
I have no problems with less able individuals.

As a teacher I was always given the more challenging kids because I could deal with them.

I had one class of sixteen year olds who were notorious. One lesson a senior teacher turned up with a girl in isolation, one who had been kept out of lessons because of her behaviour.

She was supposed to be excluded from my lesson too, but pleaded to be allowed to come because she behaves for me.

I was given the option of allowing her into my class which I did, and she was as good as gold.

I do have a problem with those who pontificate and lecture the rest of us despite having the wherewithal of a lesser primate.

And with those who prey on them, pushing anti vaxx and far right nonsense.

I have a problem with Bulma's far right flat Earth horseshit and the fact he boasts of his association with convicted child rapists.

It's not because he's thick, which he is, it's because he's repulsive.

How are you on child rapists?

I know churches are a breeding ground for child sexual exploitation.

Instead of attacking the reproductive rights of women you should be doing something about that.

You'd rather admonish me for calling him thick, because there's nothing wrong with a bit of noncing as long as it's in the church.

Grab them by the pussy.

At least Grover Cleveland is someone I've heard of.

I've never heard of Margaret Sanger.

Could you be more obscure?

God bless you Izzy. You speak in great ignorance.
Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood. She was a strong believer in Eugenics. She wanted to eliminate "the weak" so that a "strong society" could exist. She was an enemy of "the colored" (black people).
I am happy that you help school children. I believe that you mean well.

Frank,
When the subject goes to political viewpoint, the words usually get nasty. I believe that you are a nice man. I will leave it at that.

@NealNealNeal,
You choose one flawed individual nobody outside of America has heard of and then extrapolate that to include everyone who believes in reproductive rights.

Eugenics was quite popular with the intelligensia in the early 20th Century before Hitler made the term toxic.

Teddy Roosevelt, Helen Keller, George Bernard Shaw HG Wells and Winston Churchill were all supporters of eugenics.

You certainly like fact mining, it's a lot easier than dealing with the big picture.

Thank you, Neal.

After much agonizing over the issue, I have decided that the best move we Americans can make at this point...is to dissolve the Union as now constituted.

It seems to me that there should be a bare minimum of three separate countries made of what is now the United States. A left leaning Pacific Coast nation; a left leaving Northeast Nation; and a right leaning SouthMiddle Nation. My feelings are that Texas will want to be a separate nation...although perhaps joined by Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. So that would make four.

I hope we do it...I hope events force us to take that drastic step.

Not me. It would be like Solomon actually dividing the baby into two pieces. It would make us weaker than we now are.
