Things I'm Sick Of.

(The following items are not listed in the order of the importance that I attach to them or the degree of intensity of dislike on my part.)
1) Telephone solicitations. (Were it not for the invention of the caller-ID display that can be used to screen unwanted calls, I would go insane from answering the phone 16 times a day.)
2) People making a religion out of whatever political ideology they happen to believe, even to the extent of being incapable of acknowledging or outright refusing to admit that their political movement has ever been wrong about any moral issue.
3) Holocaust deniers -- okay, so I’m talking about people now -- as well as those who would whitewash the history of Communist regimes.
4) Forcing nonathletic students who have no interest in sports to take P.E. classes that are centered around sports, really “sports only.” Classes which are actually useless and hellish for them. And all in the name of physical fitness, which is clearly hypocritical -- when, in fact, such mandatory P.E. classes do nothing to promote physical fitness for the nonathletes, who are actually discouraged from being physically active. (Instead, support a genuine fitness P.E. program such as PE4Life; or send the nonathletic kids to health clubs!)
5) Bullying of students in schools (related, in part, to No. 4 above), where they are supposed to be getting an education. Actually, bullying in general.
6) The claim that is made incessantly that participating in one sport or another builds character while completely ignoring individual cases to the contrary.
7) Arrogance.
8) People who think they’re always right and don’t listen to others (related to No. 7 above).

@wmwcjr,
Well, with 7) and 8) I'm being redundant.

As you can see (above), I talk to myself. Smile

7) Arrogance.
Arrogance is where your ego doesnt like someone else's ego because it is not kiss-arse enough to your ego....so you call them arrogant.

What do you think about people who ARE always right but do listen to others ?

I`m sick of "global warming" people.
Al Gore just made a speach in Gothenburg and left the motor of his car run for one hour.
EU which moves between Brussels and Strassburg every six month costing the same pollution as 13 000 flight between Brussels and New York
20% of all British good vegetables are/were trown out because of EU regulations
10-20% of all daily baked bread in Germany is thrown out because people demand more varaities than they can eat.
Swedish apples are thrown out so we can import from New Zeland
15 000 people came to a summit in Copenhagen about global warming - many in private planes. Tons of food was wasted, water was wasted.
The list is long......

@Ionus,
I happen to agree with you about Al Gore, and I'm not even a Republican.

@Ionus,
Greetings and cheers. We meet for the first time. I like your avatar. That verbal slugfest between you and kuvasz months ago was fascinating. Sometimes it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie. Believe it or not, I’m not one of your opponents. I think I agree with you on some issues. Now I shall attempt to submit a reply that will satisfy you, but will probably fail …

I don’t hate arrogant people; I’m merely irritated by them. As the dictionary definition indicates, arrogant people are full of unwarranted pride. As a preacher once told me, “We’re all ignorant. Just in different areas.” For that very reason, I don’t believe that there is anyone who is always right. As far as “not kiss-arse enough for [my] ego” is concerned, I don’t want anyone to fawn on me. I hope I’m being honest about this: I’m not interested in ego battles with people, which doesn't mean that I'm not capable of losing my temper (as I've done in this website's forum three times Embarrassed Sad ). In a verbal exchange with someone, I may take a particular stand on an issue as a matter of principle; but ego is not involved. What has bothered me about a lot of arrogant people is that they often don’t respect others. Pardon me if I brag about my late father; but he was extremely successful in his chosen profession, despite considerable difficulties he faced as a teenager. But he showed by his actions and his example that he was a humble man who respected the dignity of those whose vocations were not high-paying like his. Anyway, like it or not, that’s my reply. Smile

And an excellent reply it is. I see arrogance as fear. Some people have more of it than most during certain times in their lives. I have been accused of being arrogant but I have never felt superior to anyone.
I go to great lengths to joke with old people (no-one talks to them...why is that ?) I know that doesnt sound right, but I always get away with it....things like...I was walking past an old lady waving goodbye to her husband in their car...I told her " Stay away from men in cars young lady, they are nothing but trouble" ....not a great joke but she laughed a good deal anyway and I think it did wonders to convince her that not all large ugly men were threatening. I also like to tease people in wheel chairs...."I hope that contraption isnt four wheel drive because I hate those things"....it varies on my assessment of the person but you get the idea.

This may only be an Oz cultural thing but I always get a laugh. These people feel isolated and shunned when they move through public areas. I always go out of my way to talk to them. I never help them and I have never been asked to....I just talk to them.

On this forum, I will never put anyone on ignore..to me that is bigotry. I will try my hardest (successful so far) never to vilify someone FIRST...however I will go down into the sewer to kill a rat that tried to bite me.

Hail and well met good fellow.

Uh-oh. I see that my first post in this thread received a "thumbs down." *gasp* I have offended someone. I had a feeling that might happen. Possibly a sports fan was offended by items 4) and 6)? Or could it possibly be someone with a "boys will be boys" attitude about school bullying? I'm crushed. I'll never recover. Crying or Very sad Mr. Green

@wmwcjr,
Yeah, boys will be boys. At around age 13, they should be nailed inside barrels and fed through the bung hole till they're old enough to be out on their own.

@roger,
Good evening (or morning, rather), my good sir. I like your avatar, too. It's cute. How can you say that about boys? After all, you once were a boy yourself. Has it really been that many years since that wonderful and exciting time when you were exploring the world around you with a sense of wonder and awe? You must belong to the W. C. Fields school: "Go away, boy. You bother me." Of course, when I was a boy, I would occasionally get on my sister's nerves. My wife has said that I was lucky she didn't kill me. Anyway, I like your short but entertaining comments.

the two things that currently annoy me a lot are:

1) television commercials that are MUCH more loud than the program...and I dont hardly ever watch tv by my family does

2) rebates...I am sure that these make sense in some way to somebody, but what it says to me is that capitalism no longer works. One of the main advantages to capitalism was supposed to be efficiency, and yet with rebates we do work that should not be required at all. If the seller is willing to take a lower price then offer me a lower price, dont make me pat more then wait for a kickback, wonder if i will actually get the kickback.

Now someone gave me a "thumbs up," which evens my score back to what it was before. Oh, what a topsy-turvy world we live in!

@hawkeye10,
But rebates cost less. Some people don't use them, some are about to expire by the time you get them, and some seem to get lost in the mail.

And rebates are worth less to me...over the years I have been screwed out of hundreds of dollars of rebates...If I see a rebate of $100 I figure that I may or may not actually get it, so I dont think i am paying $100 less than register price. I think i am paying Reg price, and I MAY get $100 back.
