This debate reminds me of the children's story "The Little Red Hen".
Of course all the barnyard animals want to help the hen eat the bread.
That would make sense if they were not being asked to forgive many times that amount in debt owed to them, as ehBeth noted earlier.
This is always spun every which way from Sunday, but count the actual numbers and the "they want to share the spoils" argument is harder to make.
