Why when you try to dissolve more than 8g of phenol in 100g of water do you get two layers of liquid and what are these liquids?

Are you too lazy to type "phenol water layers" into Google? And too lazy to remember what the teacher said in class?

I'd say the answer to your question is pretty obvious, Contrex. Shall i assume it was rhetorical?

@contrex,
Believe it or not, there are quite a few people out there who don't know how to determine which key words to use in a Google search. You do well by demonstrating the key words to this student so they can learn from it.

I hope they'll be able to find the lesson amongst all the ridicule.

I get tired of that "Americans don't do irony" bullshit--that's an article of religious faith with limeys, ain't it?

I know; it is untrue though. Many limeys don't do it either. But it is fun to use to needle you guys.

@joeshilly,
One layer is primarily water with a little phenol and the other is primarily phenol with a little bit of water.
