Poo-Munching Bacteria

Yes, really.

In Cambridge, in Pacific Street Park, there are holding tanks and, yes, the aforementioned poo-munching bacteria. Whaddaya put there? Your doggie's business. What does it do? It powers a street lamp, with more electrical projects to go.

Ingenious!

And, poo-munching bacteria is just a fun thing to say. Say it today!

@jespah,
That's quite brilliant!

I wonder which breed of dog and his or her can make the brightest light of them all?

@roger,
Yes. No word on whether humans have tried it.

All together now: ewwwww.

@Izzie,
BTW: I wasn't hinting at which dog would make the most reliable compost candidate but which breed of dog makes the ... um ... most product for the compost light. Razz

Probably one of the mastiff family breeds. Dog poo factories on a very grand scale!

But young Labrador retrievers can produce a great amount of ... compostable product. Greater production of compostable product then expected for their size breed.

Is this a limited time offer?

But WAIT!
If you act now, you can also say piss sipping protozoa!

Be the first kid on your block to say them both!

@chai2,
Feel free to weave both into regular conversation. As in, "This quarter's projections make a graph that's shaped like poo-munching bacteria." And, "Not tonight, dear, I have a headache caused by staring at too many piss-sipping protozoa."

From SFGate Day in Pictures -

Poop-powered: Louisa Solano hugs a somebody else's dog as she and Macedo (left) take a walk in a Cambridge, Mass., dog park. At night, the park is lit by a gas light connected to Boston artist Matthew Mazzotta's Park Spark device (background), which collects methane gas given off from doggy droppings.

@Merry Andrew,
I'm thinking poo-munching is illegal in 34 states. There is a bill pending in congress for a constitutional amendment defining bacteria as a terrorist threat requiring homeland security to eliminate bacteria entering the country.
