Rainsoft Q2 softener - stuck piston

Anyone have any advise on how to fix a stuck piston? The shear pin keeps breaking on the drive motor.

@jski,
Have you Changed the O-rings on the piston itself? There are three of them.

The swelling of the o-rings over time causes this issue as does the pitting that occurs on the brass valve.

Bypass unit or shut water off.

Relieve unit pressure by pulling back on the two shutoff tabs on the right hand side of the valve near the drain and the brine fill lines.

Replace with O-ring 110 (I think... ask a machine shop to size them and get you a comparable one.)

Lube them up real good with DOW-111 as well as the shaft on the piston assembly.

Should work fine as long as the valve is not heavily pitted and you are replacing the shear pin correctly.

ALSO, DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE GUIDE CAP (WHITE PLASTIC TOP) You only need to make this snug if you over tighten it you WILL crack it and it will leak.

turn the water back on before you completely reassemble to check for leaks.
