Remember reading something to the effect of "When it is all said and done, if I have one friend left and that friend is me, I'll be satisified". Anyone know if this is a quote by Lincoln? What speech/letter, etc he used it in? May be really far off on this one. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Here's the actual quote: I desire to so conduct the affairs of this administration that if at the end, when I come to lay down the reins of power, I have lost every other friend on earth, I shall at least have one friend left, and that friend shall be down inside of me.
Still looking for where he used it...
According to this site:
http://www.giga-usa.com/gigaweb1/quotes2/quautlincolnabrahamx001.htm - it was "in a reply to the Missouri Committee of Seventy"
thank you
many, many thanks
You're welcome - by the way, I googled Lincoln and "one friend left" to find it...
ahh
I was using lincoln and "deep within me" --thought that was part of the quote. Thanks again.
