Oh darn!! Cravenly jealous of Black Betty!!!

Will you come see me Thursdays and Saturdays?
What have you got to lose?
Chestnut brown canary, ruby-throated sparrow.
Sing a song, don't be long.
Thrill me to the marrow.

Written about Stills break up with Judy Collins...

The acoustic guitar for the song is tuned to a very unusual tuning. Rather than the strings being tuned to the traditional EADGBE, they are instead tuned to EEEEBE. Stills used this same tuning for Carry On.

I wanna tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Comes out of the Virginia swamps
Cool and slow with plenty of precision
With a back beat narrow and hard to master

Some call it heavenly in it's brilliance
Others, mean and rueful of the Western dream
I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft
We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping
This is the land where the Pharaoh died

The Negroes in the forest brightly feathered
They are saying, "Forget the night.
Live with us in forests of azure.
Out here on the perimeter there are no stars
Out here we is stoned - immaculate."

Listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the heartache
I'll tell you 'bout the heartache and the lose of God
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
The meager food for souls forgot
I'll tell you 'bout the maiden with wrought iron soul

I'll tell you this
No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

I'll tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Soft drivin', slow and mad, like some new language

Now, listen to this, and I'll tell you 'bout the Texas
I'll tell you 'bout the Texas Radio
I'll tell you 'bout the hopeless night
Wandering the Western dream
Tell you 'bout the maiden with wrought iron soul

Pan--

I thought that was a lovely characterization of Judy--chestnut brown, ruby throated...how do I catch the sparrow... What a beautiful love song. Long after they're both gone, that love will still inspire people. Romantic...

Never don't tell me, though. Very Happy

Dys--

Loved these lines, too.

"I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft"

"I'll tell you 'bout Texas Radio and the Big Beat
Soft drivin', slow and mad, like some new language"

"Tell you 'bout the maiden with wrought iron soul"

Who did it?

I'm listening to today's broadcast of the Lowell Folk Festival, live from Boardinghouse Park in Lowell (MA) on WGBH-FM 89.7 (streaming as WGBH.Org pn the 'net). Right now a Cajun band is giving it their all. Eyeco, eyco!

Never heard of them. Did they have any hits in the UK?

Over here Saga is a car insurance company for over-50s.

Jazz from Riverwalk on NPR. They're doing a Fats Waller tribute tonight. Great music. And that's a great program, btw, if you never listen to it.
