Jesse Winchester - a native southerner who evaded the draft during the Viet Nam war and spent his twenties in Canada where he hooked up with Robbie Robertson and The Band.

As a native southerner, who was raised in the north, adopting more northern sensibilities in a lot of ways, but retaining an inborn love of the most wonderful parts of southern culture (and food!) - I've always related to him - because one of the lines of one of his songs:

"Me, I want to live with my feet in Dixie, with my head in the cool, blue north"

describes exactly how I've always felt.

Nicolette, Let Noone Live Rent-Free in Your Head (now theres an advice I've failed to follow)

I like this song: Song for Europe.

(On second read, will dedicate it to A. ... must be how she feels.)

------------------------------

I'm going home, I'm going away
Unless you tell me you love me
I'm going home, I'm going home
Unless you ask me to stay
It's cold here and the buildings are grey
I want to feel my home but you asked me to stay
But if you dont want me around, let me know

I'm going home, back to my fatherland
Home back to my motherland
Home back to my fatherland

I'm going home, back to my fatherland
Home back to my motherland
Home back to my fatherland

You have a heart, but you're sad and you're scared
You think I'll burn you like fire
I only came to see your heart
But you don't trust me at all
You think that I hate you for the things in the past
I don't, it's just it seems to me the past still lasts
I love you but I have to leave you, I must go

I'm going home, back to my fatherland
Home back to my motherland
Home back to my fatherland

I'm going home, back to my fatherland
Home back to my motherland
Home back to my fatherland

Your sense of sin
Is destructive
Don't want to win
Just want to live

I'm going home...

Johnny Cash : Cover Albumn

He made me cry! Listening to him sing "Hurt" (NIN cover) is devastatingly beautiful. His pain is palpable.

Ok, so Johnny Cash is one of my favorites. The man always rocked.
