I think this is Cassandra Wilson doing a rendition of "Wichita Lineman." An old Glenn Campbell tune, right? Interesting.

WGBH has been broadcasting tonight a full five-hour program of nothing but Herbie Hancock. I've had it on since 7 p.m. and fully intend to keep it on til midnight.

The Chieftains-Long Black Veil

The cut I'm listening to at the moment is Mo Ghile Mear(Our Hero) with Sting..I haven't a clue what he's singing, but it's a gorgeous song.

I'm gonna have to listen to Mick Jagger sing The Long Black Veil..another old country favorite..

Hingehead - love Booker T

It's a sunny day here, highway traffic not too bad for a Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. and I just heard Ike Turner on the radio.

Baby's Got It.

I was feeling pretty damn good seconds into it and down right happy by the end.

Listeners were informed that he's playing piano, guitar and bass. Multi tracking and overdubbing never sounded so good.

Went to the Stax Studio Museum in Memphis. Spent 4 hours in the shrine. 1 hour staring at Booker T's M4 Hammond organ...lol

First heard The Long Black Veil by the Kingston Trio. People think it's an old 18th century ballad but it was written by Mary Jane Wilkin back in the early 60's and was first recorded by Johnny Cash in 1963.

BTW, her son was Ronnie from Ronnie & The Daytonas- GTO fame

hiya Joe

Poor Ike, one of the classic 'love your art, hate your persona' people.

Ahh Stax. Wilson, Aretha.

Ever hear the story about Motown's Funk Brothers - there was a respected female bass player (who's name completely escapes me but I can look it up) who claims that the many of the Funk Brother's backing tracks weren't used on the released versions of many Motown hits and that often the session guys she played with provided the finished product. I'm sure Panz has heard the story, any idea on how true it is?
