Winamp Assertion Failed

For some reason when i open up winamp it says assertion failed and i have already tried reinstalling it> What do i do to fix this problem and why is it happening.

Do you use Norton Anti Virus? If so, what version?

And BTW, what winamp version?

If you are using 3, you should try 5. If not, then here's a likely fix.

Note: Winamp 3 is approaching end of life, this means it's no longer supported and soon will not even be available for download. If you need to stick to 3 then save a copy of the installer file.

Turn off winamp, then uninstall it.

CRUCIAL STEP: Delete the winamp folder (or at least the Winamp3/db folder.

Then reinstall it.
