Who I wonder will pick up the peace banner in this new confrontation?
I had hesitated to post this in light of 9-11. But, it relates to the Peace Movement in general and not that specifically, so I went ahead.
We need not be ashamed of not wanting a war ever.
Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.
--Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. my opinion.
I did not want to rile anybody's feelings. I have very mixed feelings about 9-11 anyway. I want these kinds of terrorism stopped. I want the organizations behind them stopped. At the same time I want people to go in to undo the damage caused by imperialism. I don't want Iraq tied in. I want very much to see the world wean itself off of oil. I want to see the Israeli government reigned in and a division of the land. There are those who think I am not a good citizen for wanting to do things this way.
At Thanks Giving dinner with my Aunt Jane we had a similar discussion. My cousin is former Special Forces and he agrees this war will be bloody, long, and does not think we can prevail. We don't even know where the enemy is. And once we invade Iraq he says it will be Viet Nam all over again since the Iraies will be fighting in their home land for their home land.
I think that America's approach to war is to whittle away at the enemy from afar for as long as necessary. I don't anticipate any great losses initially. I think the greatest loss of Americans' lives would be during the occupation. For some reason they can never find a way to stop many of the suicide missions.
Hopefully something will come from the inspections going on right now that will stop the mad scheme of Bush's before it gets underway.

Ginsburg and Dylan having wine sitting atop Kerouac's grave. That's poetry.
