Scientists confirm that parts of earliest genetic material may have come from the stars

Scientists have confirmed for the first time that an important component of early genetic material which has been found in meteorite fragments is extraterrestrial in origin, in a paper published on 15 June 2008.

Now we start taking the Drake Equation a bit more seriously.

It is. The neat trick is we have shown that the building blocks for life (i.e. not life itself, but what it needs to form) can come from places other than the originating planet. This means that the possibility for this to happen elsewhere is there.

@Sabz5150,
This, of course, does not lend towards "directed" panspermia... the idea that aliens seeded the planet. What it does say is that the bits and pieces needed to create life are present in places other than Earth and are capable of reaching it. In other words, all the ingredients don't need to come from the same store.
