An interesting article published in the Christian Science Monitor on how President Eisenhower dealt with illegal immigration more than 50 years ago.

How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico | csmonitor.com

Can it work in today's PC world, I think not.

@socalgolfguy,
It could still work in todays day. You wouldn't call it Operation Wetback though. You think that people would be upset if the INS actually did its job and deported people to Mexico that are here on expired visas?

@socalgolfguy,
There's four thing we could that would cost virtually no money, as a matter of fact, would save us millions, stop illegal immigration in it's tracks.

Arrest employeers that hire illegals
Stop ALL welfare benefits for illegals
Stop ALL medicare for illegals
End birthright citizenship

That's it. Illegal immigration would virtually cease to exist because then there would be almost no reason to come to America illegally. Maybe at the same time, actually increase benefits for coming to America legally.

I agree 100%

Right now the risk vs reward is so unbalanced that people do not fear deportation. Also employers getting nothing but a slap on the wrist or a finger wage really does not help. And in regards to welfare, i pretty much hate this system regardless.

@socalgolfguy,
It's hopeless. Learn Spanish. Get a Hispanic woman. They're the best anyway.

Those points are from Ron Pauls illegal platform for immigration control.

@socalgolfguy,
OK, so how do you make him more attractive to voters? My friends are mostly moderate conservatives and they are unconvinced he will be able to make any headway from here on in. What's his stragegy at this point? Staying the course will not do it for him.
