Black Is The New Black | Gadget Lab from Wired.com

I thought that this was pretty cool. Another article I saw about this had ideas about using it as stealth material and something to do with space. Other than that I cannot think of a average joe reason for this material.

Solar panels. It's light absorption levels are off the wall.

@DiversityDriven,
Solar and wind energy are my favorites. Coal-burning scares the crap out of me.

You're our science guy, how long will it take for this technology to make it's way down to the consumer in the form of solar panels..?

A while if I had any guess.

Nanotube/nanorod technology is still extremely new, but bringing about some neat tricks. The same carbon allotropes used to make this material are used to make aggregated diamond nanorod, a material which exceeds diamond in hardness.

Give it a few years, then you'll begin to see it in more "affordable" packages.

@Drakej,
I really hope so Sabz. I see conventional solar panels popping up more and more all over these days. Hell the "condos" across the street have solar panels as a large portion of the roof and I live in the pacific northwest.

@Drakej,
I'd like to see a room where all of the walls are made of this material, it would be like walking into the abyss!
