Do ctrl-alt-del and there is just too many programs running. I close some but winnit and comwiz will not close. Sometimes new ones show up. Please, how can I get rid of these stupid programs. I have gone to regedit and looked for them and deleted them from regedit and they are still there. I have searched C: drive for them and deleted them and they are still there. Help Shocked

Um, make sure you know what you are doing in the registry.

Have you checked your Startup folder? What's in there?

Is it something a spyware tool would remove?

I just went to msconfig and unchecked to disturbing programs and ctrl-alt-del looks better.
I am careful in the registry. Thank You for your comments people.

Mr Stillwater, before I try C:format tell me what it will fix up pretty quick.
After going to msconfig, things look cleared out. But tell me anyway for the future. Thank You.

Ruach,

You have spyware installed on your computer. These are little programs that run on your computer and do two things (not including steal resources). They send reports about your computer behavior to their owners, and they pop up advertisements.

The safest way to get rid of these nasty programs is to run a program to remove them. I have had luck with the free version of Ad-ware from www.lavasoft.com. There are several commericial programs from reputible companies around that claim to remove these programs.

You have these programs because someone ran a program that they downloaded off the net. The neat little programs that put the weather on your toolbar, or promise to increase your computer speed etc all install spyware on your computer.

It is best to simply avoid these insidious little "free" programs altogether.

I once downloaded weatherbug and have now gotten rid of it. I never click on the ones that say>> You have WON!<< or hit the head, you know the ones I mean. Thanks for the info, I will head over that way.

Thanx Surprised all for your replies. The problem is solved and I did download adware and if it is not my imagination, it seems I have had less popups tonight.
