This could have gone in jokes forum, or religious forum, or music forum, or original writing forum, but i couldn't decide which so here it is. Rolling Eyes

I realize ac/dc had a similar line, but I wrote this myself anyway.
- ripped off from a 3000yr old source  :

Let There Be Rock

Chapter 1 - Intro.

1 In the beginning the speakers were static and buzzing
and there were no instruments in the band.
2 And the spirit of Rock hovered in the static
and god said "Let there be Drums"
and there were Drums.
And god heard that the drums were cool.
3 And he seperated the drums from the static and made a Beat.
And there was music then there was a pause - the first verse.

4 And god said "Let there be a noise to provide Rhythm"
So god made the noise and an instrument to play it,
and he called the noise "Bass", and the instrument he called "Guitar".
And there was music then there was a pause - the second verse.

5 And god said "Let the Bass Guitar be shifted to the background
and let a Riff be heard" and it was so.
And god called the Riff "Lead Guitar" and he heard that it was cool.
6 And god said "Let the Guitar be amplified and play solo's and cool effects",
and it was so, and god heard that it was cool.
And there was music then there was a pause - the third verse.

7 And god said "Let there be a noise to provide back up to the Guitar
and be able to play solo's and cool effects in harmony with the Guitar"
and it was so.
8 And god called the backup noise "Keyboards"
and god heard that it was cool.
And there was music then there was a pause - the fourth verse.

9 And god said "Let there be a stage for the instruments to be played on"
and it was so.
And god said "Let the stage bring forth smoke effects and lights,
and let the lights be coloured and flashing, all according to their kinds".
10 And the stage brought forth lights, coloured and flashing according to their kind
and smoke effects and flares, all manner of fireworks and
blinding explosions according to their kind.
11 And god saw that it was cool.
And there was music then there was a pause - the fifth verse.

12 And god said "Let us create a Lead Singer,
and let them provide vocals to the band, and sing all of their lyrics".
13 So god created Lead Singers, Male and Female he created them,
and they provided vocals to the band and sang their lyrics.

14 And god listened and heard all that he had made and it was very cool.
And there was music then there was a pause - the sixth verse.

Chapter 2 - The Concert Tour

1 Thus Rock'n'Roll was created with all it's vast noise,
and the spirit of Rock took a break from all the music it had made.

2 This is the account of the Band when it was created.
When god had created Rock'n'Roll, and no one came from miles around,
for he had not sent crowds to the concerts, but the band played in the studio,
3 he formed the Lead Singer out of the static and he became a Rock Star.
Now god had created a stage with all kinds of lights and effects,
and in the middle of the stage was a microphone,
4 and he put the Lead Singer on the stage and gave him the microphone
and made the instruments play loudly to back him up.
And the band made all kinds of noises that were pleasing to the ear.
5 A stadium surrounded the stage, with seating all around, and the seats
were filled with fans who roared so loud it was heard through the entire land
(now the crowds in that town were good because the Lead Singer was also from there)
and there was a catwalk into the middle of the seating along which the Lead Singer would Strut.

6 And god said "It is not good for the Lead Singer to be alone
I will make a back-up suitable for him".
7 Now god had made the sound of all the instruments
and he played them all for the Lead Singer to see which one sounded cool,
but for the Lead Singer no suitable back-up was found.
8 So god made the band play an Instrumental,
and while the Lead Singer was grooving he took his microphone
and made a Female Singer, then he brought her to the Lead Singer.
9 The Lead Singer said,
"Lady! Baby! Queen of the Rock a will ya'…
Help me Roll! - to myself! Yeah!"

10 For this reason a Lead Singer can always be backed up by
a Female Singer, or Three.
11 Now the Lead Singer and the Female Singer both sang loudly
and they felt no shame.

What would you know
This is a pathetic post and you should get a kick to the head. I LOVE true rock, it is the best and only real kind of music but for too long it has been corrupted and raped and it has lost its meaning to millions of people.and with this post you prove that. Rock should be more than just aesthetic appeal and bullsh*t fantastical entertainment. its art its poetry and its important to culture. it should not just be a stupid fad to manipulate the youth, cos i say f@#k the youth, i'm 18 and i hate teenagers. furthermore i hate pretty much everybody, because i don't see the point in the billions of lives destroying this planet and its societies and cultures. But the youths are the most ignorant (especially america and the other countries it infects) and manipulated group of people on this f*%kin planet. its clear to see that you have improper respect or understanding of rock and its is that kind of fault that has left true rock, not the rock styles of today (for there are a number of great rock bands and metal bands that have talent and pupose and respect, but they get little recognition because they don't follow the right trends or whatever) underappreciated and starved. with sh#tty commercial pop rcok bands claiming to be talented "rock stars" prancing about on MTV, and pathetic posing phoney "punk" rocksters and "NU' rock bands and f$%kwits like LINKIN PARK mixing rock with rap and computor noise true rock is starving and the people aren't getting touched by its beauty and truth and just f@%king good hard songs and music, instead they are getting manipulated into just aesthetic and popular choices like rap and hip-hop (which is pointless because those forms aren't even music, ther requires little talent and there are no real musical enjoyments in them) and all the mixing around bands who think there are pioneering something special, trying to feel important, when they're just poluting and destroying society and culture. In summation there are too many f@#king people on this planet and they are alm,ost all too ignoratnto appreciate anything worthwile like true music, so stop being sheep and give rock respect F@

oh yeah, almost forgot...Dysfunctional, i'm sorry, but i think you need to get a grip before you decide to vent out your feelings on other people's writing. what you have to say is important but you don't need to swear and be so rude. if i did the same thing to something you wrote, you would probably tell me to p**s off. I agree, there are a lot of groups that take rock and smash it and mutalate it so that it doesn't even sound like rock anymore. but we can't moan about it unless we plan to do something about it. i personally would like to see Christian Rock storm the whole music industry. it doesn't neccisarily scream Jesus loves you or anything like that but it has cleaner lyrics (less hip hop) and has more passion because they actually have a reason to sing other than for some drug or woman that will only leave them miserable. Right now I am working on my electric guitar skills so that i can do lead in my youth group worship band. I am doing something to try and help even though it is small. are you? Peace, we still love you.

Can't stop myself
Yeah I didn't mean to sound so rude, but Its partly this medium y'know, and mostly my inability to stop myself from saying what i think needs to be said.

I'm not some loser venting stuff that I can't back up properly or will never do anything about, like some old bitter man in his 30s or 40s, I'm 18 and I am a writer of lyrics, poems, and eventually other things, as well as a presence to be reckoned with in my stubborn ability to clong to my ideals and justifications, I search out truth and will not succumb to irrelevance or insignificance. In a year i will have the means to seek out the right musicians to form my band, in a number of years we will be available to the public. for now just know that i am going to do something. but i won't bag out your religious stance, because you seem like a level head, aprt from that.

(30's or 40's? - I'm 'only' 28)

Confused You seem to have gotten the exact opposite impression than what I was trying to give.

Firstly, the Title is 'Let there be Rock' (not pop, rap, synth-whatever). The image in my head was of getting back to the good old days.

Secondly, you may also have noticed that the 'Effects-machine' took the place of the 'Devil' in the story? (When I wrote of the 'effects' of the guitar and the keyboard I was thinking distortion, wah-wah pedal, etc).

Personally I hate having to listen to the radio at work playing Christina Aguilera and all those moany love songs and posing rappers and boy bands, etc.

While having respect for it's 50's era roots, I consider 'true' Rock to be from the actual hard rock bands like Deep Purple, AC/DC, KISS, Nazareth, Quiet Riot, Scorpions, Saxon, Whitesnake, Europe, Def-Leppard(older days), also 'new wave of british heavy metal' bands, etc.
I like most old school metal but only when it shows skill with the instruments and not just thrash noise, hate lyrics, self pitying, which unfortunatley is what most modern metal has degenerated into.
I like the in your face attitude of Punk, which I believe grew out of Glam Rock, the ultimate 'showy' form of music, but I can only take such mind sawing for so long before I crave something with a bit more skill.

I prefer music rather than 'songs'. To me music is about entertainment, and I consider the lyrics and vocals as just another instrument in the band, so I do get frustrated by the style of music that is most common nowadays. ie. the music as just background to the featured singer of the moment trying to pull on my heartstrings, whining about love and lovers and how they've just broken up, or just made up, or just want to makeup, or regret breaking up, or is 'kickin her man to the 'curb', etc. - but I thought I would express it with something besides rage.

You may have thought I was describing a modern concert with the description of 'let their be flashing lights, all according to their kind, etc'. (I had to follow the style of the bible which is what I was ripping off, which is supposed to be point by the way) but all the bands above had big shows of flashing lights and explosions, (KISS is most famous for this) as well as having worthy songs, but still being able to have fun and show off on stage with their skill on the instruments.

With your knowledge of True Rock you may have noticed lines from old rock songs in the story ("...queen of the rock a will ya...", or "no-one came from miles around").
With the line where the lead singer is able to Strut along the stage I was thinking Mick Jagger, Paul Stanley, Ian Gillan, etc.
In fact I got the inspiration for this while listening to Gary Moore's magic song 'Rockin' and Rollin', which somehow reminded me of an old Sandy Nelson tune 'Let there be drum's' (ever heard of him?)

You may also notice my 'nickname' as 'T Rex', - Marc Bolan was a genius with 'poetry', as-well as an 'artist' with sound.

My CD collection is 95% 70's and 80's, except for some 60's 'Cream' and good old Yngwie Malmsteen who is himself inspired by the same bands as me and still hanging onto the idea of metal as an artform.

I'm sorry you got the wrong impression, I actually agree with you on this (besides the insults to me, of course Razz ).
I too sometimes feel like the only person in the world who thinks this way.

There's only two kinds of music:
Rock and Roll.

Dysfunctional, I gotta admit, that rant was pretty funny to me. I thought T Rex's post was funny too. T Rex clearly loves 'real rock' like you do, but you already know you were being overly harsh, so let's forget about it. Post some of your writing here in this forum. That would be more productive than yelling at folks. I don't blame you for hating vapid teens, I was like that too. However, there is also a cliche called 'angry teen', and you do yourself a disservice to come across as one. Please don't take any of this personally, I also have trouble not saying what I think needs to be said. I look forward to seeing some of your writing.

T-Rex it was awesome. I loved it. Rock on. Great job.

As for Dysfunctional I have a statment to make.

Nothing is more irriating to me then people who claim their "likes" in movies, video games, tv or Music is better because it is in the minority. There are all these people who "claim" to hate Britney Spears and the like but who has a number one CD this week? Clearly some people are lying.

Here's the deal, it is great that you have your likes of the old fashion. Living in the past. Or better yet wishing to have been born in the past, but it is so bugging that people push theiropinionn on what they think is fact onto others. Music is such a sensitive subject it is ridiculous. Music will always be here in many forms. I love every kind of music. I like the old stuff and the new. But I don't think one is better than the other. Really it depends on my mood at the moment.

I really hate people who think their "underground" stuff is so much better then the Radio. oooooooo so cool (saracasim). It is like a snobby person with their money. "Oh I don't eat at McDonalds that is for the lower life forms. Get my limo lets go to the Ritz." WHATEVER!! Everyone is focused on being different so that they can claim to be cool. "I'm ddifferentbecause I hate the radio and listen only to my cds from the past when I wasn't even thought of yet."

I think teenagers were little tag alongs with whatever was cool at that very second. God knows when something else will be cool. I thought that way when I was a teenager-not too long ago.

It is good to have an opinion and be stubborn with it just don't make it sound like a snobby look down my nose kind of thing. because there is nothing more that I hate then people who think their music is better than mine. I am sure if you told me what you liked I could tell you how dumb you are for liking it. I am sure I could do it but that doesn't mean I will.

i like this. finally some people talking (typing) sensibly
i can't believe in all that i wrote in the first post i left stuff out, man i'm tired of typing.I know there are cliches stalking at every turn, especially as anm adolescant, but i hate adolescants, and i hate a lot of other people too, for good reasons. but i'm not angry because i'm 18, i'm angry for a plethora of reasons, and will be angry when i'm middle-aged, because humanity won't change, so my rage won't die. but i still am calm and funny too, i got 2 stand up comedy gigs next fortnight.

It's already clear how ovely harsh the first post was, but that's cos it wasn't all supposed to come out at T-Rex, but once i started, i couldn't stop. What i basically don't like about the post (Let there be rock etc) is that it portrays rock as nothing better than ineffectual, fancy lights and sounds that entertain the dull wits of the masses, and I hate that because it gives no substance or transcendance to rock. In other words it shows that Rock is on a basic level the same as rap, hip-hop, techno, pop and all that ****, which is the view that too many people have these days and it is why music is in such a poor state now, just watch MTV long enough before you puke or smash the TV in a rage and you see what I mean.

I think thats what i needed to say in the first place, but lets keep the convos going.

And i posted some verses, lyrics in thew original writing section, you'll find 'em.

and if anyone is in australia or NZ i will be on the comedy channel in a few months, I'm not sure when. Comedy talent show thing.
