Why do we have death awareness and why do question?

Two (probably) unrelated questions - why do we have death awareness; I assume evolution produced it in giving us 'secondary' consciousness, but does it have a purpose - to motivate, perhaps?

Secondly, why do we question? Is this another facet of consciousness - and could it help chance of survival in some way?

Humans are naturally curious, I think. If we don't know the answer to it, we question it.

The question of "death" is a big one, and will be talked about forever.
