You feel pain, so you look around for it, but you can't find it.
You go home and take it out.

Here are the reasons why A SPLINTER is the answer:
1. You go into the woods and you get the SPLINTER (Wood gives you splinters).
2. You feel pain, so you look around for the SPLINTER but you can't find it (splinter's hurt and you can never find them).
3. You go home and take the SPLINTER out (with tweezers, duh).
