Hi.

Currently, I am a senior in high school, preparing for college. I am looking at purchasing a laptop for college, a Dell Inspiron 8500. On the website, they recommend that I purchase WinXP Pro because of its advanced networking tools. Is this true or just some way for Dell to make a couple extra bucks Confused ?

Thanks.
Robert

You probably don;t need pro. Please see this comparison guide.

Searching for xp pro vs xp home will give you many more useful comparisons.

Howdy Robert:

Agree with Craven except for one point.. XP Home doesn't allow you to connect to a "domain".. at least not without some very fine tuning and manipulation.. So, if you are contemplating tieing into the school's server, your will need Pro as it allows for Domain connections..
